Wow, after 13 months of fighting with five (5) different Palm Treo 700wx's, we finally convinced Alltel to provide us with two (2) brand new Palm Treo 755p's last week and we purchased a 3rd one and they are sensational devices so far.Palm 755

For over a year we have been missing calls, not being notified of voice mails, randomly going into roaming mode and not being able to automatically update our electronic keys for the Supra lockboxes.  Susan hated hers so much that she gave it away and bought plain old phone and went back to her old Palm Zier.

These new phones are thinner & lighter, do not have the stupid stubby antenna and they run the plain old fashioned Palm operating system.  Best of all our calls are actually going through to the phones.  The electronic keys are automatically updating like magic (at about 4am, because I forget to turn the sound off and they are waking me up at night).  The setup was completly painless and took about 30 minutes per phone.  We use Agent Office for our group with the data base on a file server and were having issues with the 700's sync-ing properly, the new phones have been flawless synchronizing with the database of contacts.   The Supra e-key program opens quicly and connects with the lockboxes in a matter of seconds.  It is easy to do one handed lock/unlock of the keypad, set-up of speed dials is a snap.  The selection of games standard is disappointing but there are plenty of them available fo rdownload from the web.  it even comes with a cool application called Avvenu that allows us to connect to our computer or server back in the office to look at specific files.  The Versa mail program works with our POP mail server.

In addition it will function as a modem when we are out at open houses and allow us to connect to the internet, has Bluetooth wireless technology and comes with P-tunes media player and will function as a MP3 player.

I realize that this is probably sounding like an ad produced by one of the phone vendors but this thing is absolutely awesome so far.  If you have been having issues with a Treo 700wx, I would visit your local store repeatedly until they give you one of these at no charge.  As much as we hated the 700's that is how much we love the  755's.

If you have one of these phones drop us a comment here, we would love to hear from you about your experiences.

Robert, thanks for the comment.  I think you would really like this phone for real estate.  I feel kind of silly being so enthusiastic about something, but it has been great after 13+ months of frustration.

Are you suggesting that my Treo 600, affectionally known as the brick, should be updated?  Hmmmm you might have gotten my attention.  If I mention your name do I get a discount?

Cindy, Throw your brick into the foundation of a new home somewhere and get yourself one of these 755p's the are great.

Well I'm in for the last three years I have used the Treo 650 and like the phone most of the time.  With a few exceptions like when it just decides to reset it self.  When you loose you email functions for no reason.  Other than that it is good and I took a class recently and they said get the 755p and after reading your blog I will be doing that in April when my contract comes up.  Thank you for the words of encouragement.

My 650 is so beat up, I can't wait to upgrade to one of these.  I can't believe how much lighter and more ergonomic it feels from the 650.

I have had the 755p since the begining of the year and really like it.  However it does have a few issues.  It also locks up, reboots and misses calls occasionally.  It syncs the elctronic keys without problem and integrating email and contacts works great.

Susan, I believe you will love the 755p, they only issues we have had so far have been from our fat fingers.

Cheryl, Our 700's were such a pain we were ready to dumpster and pay full price for a plain-old-phone just to be rid of them.

Jeannie, Isn't it amazing they can be so similar and yet so completely different.  You would almost think it was from a different company.

Carolyn, I'm sorry to heasr that you have had problems with yours occasionally.  We have only had them a little over a week but they have preformed flawlessly.  I'll knock on wood and cross my fingers.

I am a longtime Palm user and currently use a 700P.  I feel SO connected with it.  If you use an efax-type service, you can also send/receive faxes.  It's time for me to upgrade phones and I've been considering trying a Windows Mobile device (Sprint Mogul PDA) but am not sure how well I'll like it.  I may try it and trade it for the Centro if I don't like it...

We used the windows based ones for a year and they were a pain, the 755p's are still using the same old palm operating system and are extremly fast and so far very reliable.  Thanks for the comments.

Very interesting.. I have the 700P and find it to be un-reliable with the Supra system. I think I'll try the 755P. We don't have a ton of choices when it comes to lock box access.

Since it has been a while since you wrote this, feel free to respond if your opinion has changed. :-)

The 700p I have heard a few negative comments about and the 700w  was just junk.  The 755p has just been great.  I can usually be a skeptic about things but it has been a nice device.

With the 755 I heard there was some type of connector you could buy to use the phone as a modem for your laptop. Does anyone know that program and where to purchase it?

Susan, We actually have that setup.  You use the same cable for that feature that you use to synchronize the palm with the computer.  There is some softwar you need to download, setup & install but it works very cool.  Isn't the fastest connection but it beats no connection.  The program come right from palm.  It is the USB modem software, ther should be a link directly from your install CD.

Have you heard how the Palm Centro is doing? I know you love your 755 but would  you upgrade to the centro... it's smaller!

I've been using 700w for a few years. The phone has been OK, but has not been the best tool. I use it as a key for my Supra lockbox and it normally is a nightmare. Updates never happen and the application crashes all the time.

I have used the phone as a modem for our laptop and it works great. We once surfed, answered email, etc. from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The modem only disconnected once on the Grapevine (mountain pass north of LA)

I'm glad to hear that the new model is running better. I've been thinking about doing an upgrade and you've now given me more choices. Thanks for the review.

Geogg, The 755's have been al,ost bulletproof on the Supra e-key updating.  That I can remember 1 of them failed to update one day so far otherwise perfect score.  Have not had the chance to try the modem cabability for an extended period, oly at an open house.

I currently use a Samsung Blackjack; but I'm getting ready to upgrade in the fall time.  I'll have to check out the Treo.  FYI:  The Samsung Blackjack has been great -- screen is fantastic -- especially for my old eyes.

Kathy, thanks for stopping by.  A funny thing is I tried to convince Alltel to give us the HTC 6800 instead of the Palms but they refused .  I've now talked to several people I know that had the HTC and have gotten rid of it in favor of the Palm, so we actually lucked out on this one.  Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

Thanks for the info on the Treo 755.  I just got mine this weekend after my Tungsten E2 froze again, wouldn't even attempt to boot up and I had to cancel a showing appt cause of NO KEY.  I hope (and pray) that this is the solution. Spent yesterday morning getting it set up with Supra.  I don't have the connection with Top Producer yet.  Do you think it is worth the cost?  It is already an expensive item and I am not connected to the Internet yet.  Yikes, big learning curve here, but I am up for the challenge. Thanks for the encouragment all.....

Shelly, you are going to love this phone.  I have been using mine all afternoon today (over 4 hours now) as a modem and it has been flawless.  Calls still come in and we don't loose the internet connection.  The spped has been great, 1324kbps on the down side, only 98kbps on the upload side.  I'm actually typing this reply via the phone.  We love them.

We have an unlimited data package from Alltel that costs about $35.00/month.  But that updates our Supra key as well as providing internet & modem access.

Brian,

I know a few salespersons who purchased this phone in just the last week...all because of the ability it has to automatically update the electronic key !!!  It also helped that when they returned the board supplied key, the return of their deposit paid for the phone.  I may just have to check it out too.

Brian, I've had my treo 755p for two weeks now, have had a lot of problems with the phone locking up when the esync happens overnight automatically.  (It locks up that program)  If anyone has any fixes on this.

Bill, sorry for the delay getting back to you.  What program are you using to sync the calendar & contacts.  I have used Outlook, the palm desktop as well as Agent Office and all three have been very easy.  Did have a small issue when my wife's computer crashed and had to re-install everything.  I'll have to look at my notes but it was something to do with the old profile from the phone the first time.  If you call Palm tech support, ask to escalated to a higher level of tech support, I spent 45+ minutes with a tech and didn't solve the issue, second level guy took less than 10 minutes.

Sue, who is your phone provider?  We have only had about 3 night total that we have not had a successful sync (happes about 5:00 am).  Have you tried a soft reset?  Just take the battery out and put in back in and see if that helps.

Brian,

How is the battery life on the 755? How many hours can you talk on it before you had to recharge the phone?

That is my main concern with the Treo but I do like the feature they have on it. Very easy to use. I"m looking into the 755 but just worried about the battery life.

My connection is with Sprint. Have tried soft resets are well as hard resets.  Now having problems with syncing to my desk top.  After a lot of time spent with Tech support I have them sending me a new phone and I will start from scratch with everything.  Thanks for asking, if anyone has any comments please feel free to let me know.

Jim, Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.  We get excellent battery life from these phones.  We try to put them on the charger every night but if you miss a night you are usually OK the whole second day.  Between my wife & I we use over 3500 minutes per month of talk time and we have not had them go dead unless we forgot to charge them for some reason.

I am really liking my 755, but haven't started updating key wirelessly yet. How do you set that up?  Haven't really tried to find out yet, so thought I'd ask you all in Active Rainland!  How do you do the modem thing?  Where are the best downloads found?

Lots of questions...

Bartley Group - Great to hear you are loving your Treo 755.  I loving seeing a good product improved.  I started with the Kyocera Smartphone, switched to the Treo 650, then upgraded to the 700p.  On July 11th I will be upgrading again to an all new phone.  Isn't technology great?
