Countless families right here in Essex County are in danger of not having enough to eat every night. The holiday season is a time of joy for so many of us but it is also a reminder of those less fortunate who we want to help. Donating to a food pantry in Essex County is a a great way you can help those in need here in our community.

Food pantries usually recommend donations of non-perishable food items, common household goods and items such as diapers for infants. Canned, bagged and boxed goods are are often preferred by pantries, as glass containers can break. Remember to check the fresh date on labels if you are donating any items from your own cupboards.

Some of the most needed items, according to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, include canned fish and meat (tuna, salmon, spam, chicken and ham), shelf stable milk, boxed meals (pasta, potatoes, rice and cereal), canned packaged meals (macaroni and cheese, chili, stews and meaty soups), peanut butter (plastic jars only), and canned vegetables and fruit (all sizes, all kinds).

We would love to take this opportunity to also remind everyone about our office Toys for Tots drive. We still have a few days left! The Zebaida Group is heading up our annual holiday Toys for Tots collection drive at our Keller Williams Suburban Realty office. Toys for Tots is a wonderful way to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate children. Members of the community are invited to participate and we would love your generous support in making it a success!

Collections will run through Dec.13, so that the gifts can be distributed in time for the holidays. Donate new unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. The drop off location is in the lobby of our office at 250 S Livingston Ave., Livingston, NJ. We are collecting now through 12/13/2013.
