Boy, now I know why I usually don't watch the news. I was watching the nightly news a few minutes ago. No wonder buyers are fence sitting! The media paints the worst doom and gloom story ever!  Bear Stearns buyout.. economy.. etc.etc..

Here is why:

The media needs to create ratings. They also know that it is human nature to dwell on the negative news. Electronic media is sold by the rating point or by impressions.  You sit there watching some talking head tout " the worst since the great depression". How can you not be affected?

What to do?  Win The Day!

DON'T watch the news!

Listen to and read motivational and positive books..(  anything by Zig Ziglar, Dale Carnegie, John Maxwell) Daily Devotionals are also  a great way to start the day.

Stay around positive people.

Run from the doomsayers!

Accept reality about our market, but don't get stuck in it. It is what it is, now we need to move forward and create our own market.

More and more real estate professionals are leaving the profession. This will allow for more market share for those that stay in the business.

It is the absolute best time to buy real estate! Interest rates are low, home prices are low.. does it get better than this?

Just writing this blog, made me feel better.

I hope it does the same for you.. feel free to add.

Your absolutely right Lori. The media is bad news (no pun intended). Some market may be in a crunch, but many are doing well. My area has been getting multiple offers.

Lori - I feel better, too.  Thanks for sharing.  I especially like the idea of not listening to the constant negative barrage and replacing it with motivational positive reading or listening.  Great idea.

I agree!  This business is there just it's different now.  Hard work, tough marketing and you will be fine.

The media often tries to consolidate and a big concept in a 25 sec story that does not have depth or hit the target. That's why I like National Public Radio...it takes the time without the spin and sensationalism to cover the story, in depth so you form your own conclusions examining all schools of thought.  What do you think about the BP buyout anyway?  Many industries when they have market twists belt tighten, survive, go under, but survival of the fitest.  A lot of tax payer dollars thrown at the problem.  Living within ones means part of this story. Good post!
