When to Puff, When to Huff and When to Not
I don't think it's an exact science, but there must be a method to the madness.
The puffery madness I mean, which seems to take hold of some bloggers from time to time.
It's not to say that you can't self-promote. I do.
It's more about learning when to huff, when to puff, and when to not. Not every post has to be about a listing or what you can and can't do. Some can be. I firmly believe that.
However, knowing how to balance your business posts with your personal posts is one of the keys to success. People like to read about other things besides how incredible your listing is or how successful you are.
Some of my most successful posts have been the ones about other things besides my business and guess what? They've managed to help it.
Why?...I'm being something other than a salesperson. I'm being me.
If anything your business posts should be a wealth of information about your business--changes, new products, interest rates, etc.--not just a way to get consumer attention.
Remember: the longer visitors stay on your page, the better it is for you.
Unless you entice consumers to stay on your page, how do you ever hope to grow your business? Most people skim anyway, UNLESS there is something that forces them to stay.
Be the person who's writing forces them to stay.
In truth, there's a time and place for everything, and, ultimately, it's up to you whether or not you promote your business or promote who you are.
In the end, which looks better?
