Friday afternoon I left work around 2 p.m. Donald and I were going to a Christmas party Friday night and I needed to cook. I was making several dishes for a pot luck dinner party. So I came home and got going peeling sweet potatoes, making meatballs, rolling pigs in blankets and even made a pineapple casserole. (Thank you Paula Deen, that was delicious!) When we started packing the car I couldn't find my phone. My first thought was that I left it at the office so we stopped by there, but no phone.
I couldn't be late, so we headed on to the party. A few minutes later it dawned on me that even though I was away from my laptop and "find your phone" that I could get Donald to look for "find friends" on his phone. I had a little relief when it said my phone was at home. So I enjoyed the party.
I got home and started looking for my phone. Find my phone said it was in the house, Donald's phone said it was in the house. I hadn't turned the volume down, so I should be able to hear it ring. I looked in the car, in the trash, around the car on the ground, out front near the compost dump area where I had dumped the vacuum cleaner and out back because I had taken the dogs out to play a little while... no phone. I was worried the battery would die soon and I'd loose the "find my phone" beacon... which really wasn't all that helpful. I was on my icloud looking again trying to see if the satellite or hybrid view was better when Donald just started being funny (so I thought) and looking in the dishwasher and the oven.
He walked into the great room where I was on the computer and stuck my cold phone to my face and said "well it wasn't in the dishwasher and it wasn't in the oven, but that it was in the drawer in the refrigerator". Just for giggles I put it back in my obviously sound proof refrigerator and called it again. Nope, even knowing it was in there and listening for it I still couldn't hear it ring.
So if you ever need to take that electronic break, just accidentally (on purpose) put your phone in the refrigerator for a while. And on a side note, I didn't have to charge it Friday night. Perhaps because the phone wasn't used for a few hours, but somehow I've decided the batter lasts much longer in the cold. I also have to give credit for the headline to my sweet mother in law Janice. When I posted a Facebook status about loosing my phone in the refrigerator her reply was "that's a cool place" and it's just made me laugh all weekend.
