And the Snowiest City Is . . .  (no, not Buffalo)

Buffalo, New York at the eastern end of Lake Erie usually has the distinction of being the snowiest city, especially during Lake Effect storms.  December 2013 snowiest city is not Buffalo, nor is Rochester, NY or Syracuse, NY, nor is Anchorage, Alaska.

Drum roll, please . . . Erie, Pennsylvania is the snowiest city for December with 45 inches of snow . . . so far.  (More lake effect snow is forecast for this evening.)

Erie, PA

Yesterday the only schools closed were city of Erie schools, not the suburbs or county.  Most of snow fell along the lakeshore, not inland.

Snow

My birds and squirrels are happy that I come out every morning and fill the feeders.  (See little squirrel in house feeder.)

Let it snow

Inside the snowman says, Aloha.

Mary, I just love snow - so pretty;  however, I freely send ALL MY SHARE to locations that want it. I promise not to be jealous. In return I request ALOHA SNOWMAN weather. So 'you go for it,' Erie, Pa.! Maybe Santa will bring you even more. Happy for you, Mary - you and your skis.

Hi Mary, I don't know where South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana ranks, as we also get Lake effect off of Lake Michigan, but I am already tired of it this year. I will let you be in the forefront.  March On! ........come on April!

Having driven a passenger veicle, or normal size truck ( not a commercial truck) across the unoted stsates about 23 times, i will add to your notes. Although many places can have a lot of snow at times. the area near Erie is the place i typically found to be the toughest portion of my drive if i was crossing the US in the winter.

The COLDEST, was actually Oklahoma. ( once)

Mary, I like your pictures and hope you enjoyed your skiing today. Yes, you have had a lot of snow. Jay Peak, an hour from here gets the most snow in the state with an average annual snowfall of 30 feet!

Lisa, thirty feet is a lot even for a mountain.  Our normal snowfall is approx. 100 inches  Maybe winter is half over if we are lucky.  Skiing was exhilerating.

Hi Mary, As I kid I used to go to Lake Erie quite a bit and I can say gowing up in the midwest, I don't miss the snow one bit. Ok, just a tiny little bit, LOL.

I think I would be dead if I lived up there!!!! At this age, cold weather just is not appealing at all! All my joints tell me when the weather is changing! I remind myself of my grandma......it was always her knee that predicted rain.

William, if I lived in San Diego, one of our favorite vacation spots, I probably would not miss snow either.  Enjoy sunny California.

Barbara-Jo, I understand the challenges of aging as I am right there with you.  Stay warm.

Joni,  Wow is right on.  Most of us are saying the same thing, however, life goes on despite the weather.  Congrats on hitting a million points here at ActiveRain.
