Have you ever wondered how we would survive without switches? What's that you ask?
A switch? Yes... a switch. A simple device to turn something on or off. We have them on virtually everything we use from TV's and all of our electronics to automobiles and garage doors.
I suppose if we tried to count the number of switches we have in our homes they would number in the hundreds after we started adding the hair dryer, furnace, lights, and at least 4 on most refrigerators!
And if we tried to count the number of times we "flipped" a switch, from off to on or on to off... whether by hand or automatically, in a day we might be surprised how large of number that is!!
What is the first thing most people do in the morning? Turn (switch) off the alarm? That is after you had the alarm auomatically switch on to wake you. Once you roll out of bed...do you turn on (switch) a light? After that shower do you turn on (switch) the fan and/or another light?
Hey...better switch on the radio or TV ...oops...need to switch channels or stations...and get the curling iron turned (switched) on. Then over to the closet and turn (switch) on the light...then turn it off! And over and over throughout our day.
Driving to work? Hit the button (switch) to open the garage door and turn (switch) on the light...climb in the car (with a spring loaded switch to turn on the dome light)...shut the door and the light goes off...turn on the car (ignition switch)...switch the transmission from park to reverse...take your foot off the brake pedal that had unlocked a switch on the transmission to allow the car to get out of the park mode...and of course the switch by the brake pedal to shut off the brake lights...back out of the garage and then hit a different button (switch) to shut the garage door...
And on and on and on throughout our day...just so that we can get up tomorrow and flip all these switches again!!
How the heck does our brain keep up? How do we get it so ingrained that we do not even realize that without switches...the world as we know it would not...could not...exist!!
It is enough to drive a person insane unless.............you can switch it off in your head!!
