This is a continuation of my
earlier piece on Barack Obama and his family's two decade long support of the racist
Dr. Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr.
Hold on, ladies and gentlemen, this is going to get interesting. Trinity United Church of Christ began to push back Sunday against the wave of controversy that began to swell around the 8,000 member Chicago church after shocking video(s) showing the former pastor and Obama family's "spiritual advisor" surfaced. Pastor Otis Moss III, the current pastor of Trinity United, lashed out at critics who he says have "assassinated the character of our church." (It seems Dr. Wright accomplished that without any outside help) Rather than address the riotous comments of the recently resigned Dr. Wright, Moss has decided to play the race card with all his might.
“Nearly three weeks before the 40th commemorative anniversary of the murder of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.’s character is being assassinated in the public sphere because he has preached a social gospel on behalf of oppressed women, children and men in America and around the globe.” Pastor Otis Moss III, Trinity United Church of Christ - 3/16/2008
"...the government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color..." - "...The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme..." Dr. Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. - Trinity United Church of Christ Pastor, Ret.
Forgive me but what exactly does Dr. Wrights hate filled statements have to do with Dr. King? Not a single thing. But it's a great diversion.
I won't take up any more room with whether or not The Obama's knew and sanctioned Dr. Wright's religious philosophy. That much is painfully clear by their twenty year membership at Trinity United and Barack's appointment of Dr. Wright to an advisory committee for Obama '08; a position he was forced to resign from after the unearthing of damning racial rhetoric. Oh, they knew what he, and by extension Trinity United, believed and more importantly, preached on a regular basis.
Dr. Wright’s talking points, as posted on Trinity United's website, seek to explain their position on Black Theology. This is a central doctrine to Trinity United and its membership - including the esteemed Senator Barack Obama. Dr. James Crone, author of Black Power and Black Theology is oft quoted on Trinity United's website to explain just what Black liberation theology is.
"...Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love..." William R Jones, “Divine Racism: The Unacknowledged Threshold Issue for Black Theology”, in African-American Religious Thought: An Anthology, ed Cornel West and Eddie Glaube.
"The time has come for white America to be silent and listen to black people. . . . All white men are responsible for white oppression. . . . Theologically, Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man 'the devil.'. . . Any advice from whites to blacks on how to deal with white oppression is automatically under suspicion as a clever device to further enslavement." Dr. James Cone - Black Theology and Black Power.
"...Pointing out racial differences only makes it harder to "deliver on the big issues we face in this country..." Barack Obama - Town hall meeting; Plainfield, Indiana March 15, 2008 - You don't say! And WHO exactly is playing the race card?
"...we’ve got to remind ourselves that what we have in common is far more important than what’s different and that if we’re going to solve any of these problems, we’ve got to come together and bridge our differences in ways that we just have not bridged them before...”Senator Barack Obama. Hmmmm, it's a little hard to build a bridge to reconciliation when your "like an uncle" "spiritual leader" keeps setting the other end of the bridge on fire, isn't it, Senator?
Barack has been quick to talk about what Dr. Wright is - a US Marine, a 'respected' biblical scholar, and a pastor, but he's failing to address WHAT he said and that is a serious problem for the Obama camp. It's also interesting that the very thing that Barack Obama is not, and what he has spent his life trying to be, which is a member of the "oppressed American black community", may very well be his inadvernent undoing by association.
Now, there are going to be those that paint Barack as just an attendee of Trinity United Church of Christ - they will say that his membership in the church doesn't necessarily constitute an endorsement of Dr. Crone or Dr. Wright's core belief system. The Obama family has admittedly spent twenty years worshiping under the spiritual tutelage of Dr. Jeremiah Wright, he was married by Dr. Wright, his children were baptized by Dr. Wright, he admits to regularly tithing to Trinity United... and yet somehow we're supposed to believe he didn't know what Trinity United believed when it's boldly plastered all over their website? (If you believe that I have a great bridge I would love to sell you... real cheap)
Exactly how stupid does Barack Obama think the American people are? We didn't send George Wallace to the White House - We didn't send David Duke to the White House. Why on earth would we send someone to the White House to act as the defender of the Constitution of the United States - to protect her from all enemies - foreign and domestic, who seemingly subscribes to a nearly identical racial philosophy?
Jesse and Kathy, there will always be extremist on both sides, no matter what their skin color is. It is how their ideology affects their judgement is the real question. We definitely do not need a kook in the White House. I hate to say this, but before this is all over, and you can mark my words, the race card WILL be thrown out.
