How To Sell Your Home In The Wintertime

Winter usually isn't the ideal time to sell your home in Nanaimo, but sometimes circumstances leave us no other choice.

There might be a job transfer or a personal situation might arise when you have to sell your home right away, no matter if there's snow on the ground or not.

Fortunately this is not winter in NanaimoWe don't get much snow in Nanaimo, however the temperature can still be chilly and often times damp. Here are a few tips on how to sell your home this winter:

1.  Shorter days mean longer nights so be sure to provide plenty of light for prospective buyers and their realtors.  Keep the front and back porch lights on, and keep the interior well lit so that the buyer feels like they are walking into a warm, welcoming home . . . their new home!

2.  Speaking of warm, be sure to keep the thermostat set at around 21.  In addition to making your potential buyer feel welcome, the nicer it is inside your house the longer they'll stay and be able to imagine that they're living in your home.

3.  Keep walkways free of snow and ice, and if you've got a rain gutter that leaks onto the sidewalk, now's the time to get that fixed.  Nothing says 'welcome home' more than a clean sidewalk and cleared driveway in winter.  This includes raking up any leaves that are still on the ground. The last thing you want to have happen is for your buyer, who's ready to make an offer, slip and fall on the way out your front door.

4. To minimize any messiness at the front door, leave a rug where buyers can leave their shoes - having a chair for somebody to sit on when they remove their shoes is always a nice touch.  Along the same lines, have a coat rack handy and a place to put gloves or scarfs.

Always remember, the more comfortable possible buyers are looking at your home this winter, the longer they'll stay inside and imagine that they're living in their new home!
