The other day I took my 5 year old granddaughter shopping for Christmas. The goal was she would buy gifts for her family and not be focused on self. I thought this task was going to take hours, hours, and hours! She wouldn’t know what to buy, she would want to keep running back to the girl section and look for Barbie’s, Pink Lego’s, anything pink, girlie, and for her, but she proved me wrong. She met my challenge head on. She knew who she had to buy for, she thought about what they liked and picked out some great gifts. I was quite impressed. She was done in about an hour!
This really made me realize how many times we get so stressed trying to find the perfect gift, or try to guess what our loved ones might want for Christmas that through a childs eyes it was so simple. She really did pick up little simple gifts within her budget that seemed to match each person perfectly and she is not worried if they would like it or not, she just knew they would love it! I think we all need to view it from child’s perspective. Keep it simple, don’t over-think it, and get your shopping done in an hour.
After she was all done shopping for others, I let her pick out some gifts for herself for a job well done.
Now time to wrap....
Merry Christmas!
