Bull Elk Friday

By

On my way to work this morning I caught a glimpse of the bachelor herd of bull elk for the first time this year.

Bull elk in Park City

I have seen a few bull elk this fall, but just one at a time, and though I am sure their buddies were near this is the first time I have seen them all.

There are 9 in this group, a few did not make it in the picture.  They are resting at the Bitner Ranch just across Bitner Road from the Preserve and Glenwild.

If you get a chance drive around and take a look.  Even if you miss them there is a good chance you will see one of the two groups of about 100 females and youngsters grazing in the area.

Scott - Holy Cow!  Or, Elk!  I can't even imagine a herd of 100!  We don't see elk in Phoenix - but they are in Northern AZ.

Scott, I believe that is the first photo I have seen of elk not standing. They look very content but I would think the snow would be cold on their bellies.

Sharon-we have two herds that size within a few miles of our house.  Pretty cool.

Beth-you are welcome, glad you enjoyed.

Debbie-The elk do just fine here when the temps hit 10 below and more at night sometimes, I susect the snow felt almost like a sauna to them today.

Pretty amazing sight, Scott.  Is the snow that deep or are they lying down?

Kevin-and a little bit higher up in the background if I could have caught it in the picture....mountains

Gabe-they are lying down.  There is a foot at most where they are.

Jon-saw them again this morning walking on the other side of the road, pretty cool.

Michael-I never tire of seeing these beautiful animals.

Ron and Alexandra-they do get to live the good life here, no hunters anywhere around.

Scott, I am so envious.  I would love to see scenes like this in nature, not in a zoo. You are so fortunate to have this.

Lisa-we are pretty lucky here.  We should be seeing the elk until some time in February.

Gabrielle-they are just lying down relaxing, anyone could have taken that shot but luckily it was me.
