The War On Oil...Hold Your Fire???

By
Title Insurance with Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.

The other day I wrote a post suggesting we declare a 'War On Oil'...of course absurdly rising gas prices 'fueled' (pun intended) my anger and the post clearly reflected my disgust with the entire situation! It's bad enough for me and my wife to shell out $3.50 a gallon for gasoline, but I feel sorry for those on fixed incomes who shell out even more for a gallon of heating oil!!! That's almost immoral!

And I also feel that oil plays a significant role in the economic ills in our country today...especially in our real estate market!!!

Upon letting the 'dust settle', I still feel it's a good idea to 'declare this war'! Let's face it, 'fossil fuels' have had their day! It's time for us to move on and bury them deeply in the past!

There are too many clean and more efficient technologies already available, and new ones already on the drawing board...atomic energy, geothermal, Hydrogen cells, and solar and wind, to mention a few!

As a non-scientist, but trying to apply some common sense to the equation, I favor nuclear and geothermal over solar and wind...simply because of the reliability factor of nuclear and geothermal, and inconsistency of solar and wind. It's not necessary for us to debate that here...there are plenty of scientists and engineers that are much more qualified to analyze that than you or I!

Supposing you are still with me and are continuing to read on and remain interested, let's discuss some important considerations!

As I said in my previous post, and as was confirmed in that post by several commenters, the political aspects of 'oil' and its use, and lobbyists and special interest groups, present a huge stumbling block for a successful war to be waged!

Nevertheless as I also stated and as was also confirmed by commenters, a huge groundswell of support for this 'war' could more than carry the day and overcome the lobbyist and special interest groups... who knows, maybe, just maybe, the will of the people might win out on this one!!!

Power is what politicians thrive on...and power comes from 'votes' and the need to get elected!

My suggestion was, and still is, that we all get on the bandwagon on this issue...imagine fighting and winning a war without firing a shot and with no loss of lives at the end of a gun or tank or missile, or rocket launcher, or suicide bomber!

You may be asking yourself, what can a couple of thousand people on Active Rain do to wage a war on this 'oil dependence'...how can they even begin, for that matter.

Well, first of all we can raise awareness...keep talking about it to our friends, business associates, Active Rain community, and even our other blogs...remember, we have a 'secret weapon' that few know about...

                                          G O O G L E  J U I C E...

They say 'blogging' is just coming into its own...here's a way to show them that 'Blogging Has Arrived'!!!

Most wars begin with the first shot fired, let this one begin quietly, deliberately, with little fanfare, and 'below the radar'...

Ladies and gentlemen, get out your 'Google Juice' and 'begin firing'...!!!

Great post Fran. America needs to wake up and stop being sheep.  They need to know what is going on an vote to change and not rely on the few to make all the decisions.

Fran, I'll enlist for sure!  But does that mean I will have to sell my beloved gas guzzling Lexus for a Prius?  I'll have to seriously consider doing that.   My last fill up started to close in at $60!

Patricia,

My last fillup was $71.50...and I don't drive a luxury car!!! Thanks,   Fran

P.S. BTW, If this grass roots movement catches on (which it doesn't appear that it will), I would like you to be the first 'General', since you mentioned the term 'enlist' !!! :)

Great post Fran. That's a war I'll sign up for. Most of us Americans get caught up in "smoke screen" issues fed by the media, and don't really have a clue as to what is really going on.

Eugene,

I agree...politicians should quit attacking the characters of each other and focus on the issues! If they had 'skeletons in the closet' they shouldn't have even been running!!! Thanks,   Fran

Jason,

You know as well as I do, that if gas prices were below $2.00 a gallon, consumer confidence would be soaring and we'd be out of this mess...all of our 'extra money' is going into the 'gas tank'!!! Thanks,   Fran
