Jamestown’s Legacy to the American Revolution

What: More than 60 objects destined for exhibit at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will be on display in “Jamestown’s Legacy to the American Revolution,” opening March 1 at Jamestown Settlement. The special exhibition, which continues through January 20, 2014, examines the lives of Revolutionary War-era descendants of people associated with Jamestown, the 17th-century capital of Virginia.
Painters and Paintings in the Early American South

Where: DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum
What: This groundbreaking exhibition will bring together paintings by artists working in the 18th-century South and others produced abroad for southern patrons.
A Colonial Christmas at Jamestown Settlement & Yorktown Victory Center
When: Through January 5, 2014
Where: Jamestown Settlement & Yorktown Victory Center
What: Holiday traditions of the 17th- and 18th-centuries are recalled through special interpretive programs. A Jamestown Settlement holiday film and guided tours compare and contrast English Christmas customs of the period with how the season may have been observed in the difficult early years of the Jamestown colony. At the Yorktown Victory Center, hear accounts of Christmas and winter in military encampments during the American Revolution and glimpse holiday preparations on a 1780s Virginia farm. The museums are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily year-round; closed on Christmas and New Year's days.
Ghosts Amongst Us
When: January 1, 2014, 8:30-9:30pm
Where: Greenhow Lumber House
What: When the sun goes down, Williamsburg has a haunted history to tell. Enter some of the haunted buildings and sites, meet their ghostly inhabitants, and encounter some who have lived to tell of their supernatural experiences. Each of these one-hour walking tours introduces you to a different cast of characters. Due to subject matter, this program is not appropriate for young children.
Millenium Golf Classic
When: January 4, 2014, 10:00am-3:00pm
Where: Golden Horseshoe Golf Club
What: Join us for a tournament tradition that started with the millennium at the renowned Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament features teams of two amateur golfers. Saturday's format will be captain's choice; Sunday's will be four ball (two person, best ball). The entry fee of $420 per team includes tournament rounds and carts, practice rounds (pay cart fees only), practice balls prior to tournament rounds, tee gift, continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, Saturday evening buffet dinner, and awards presentation. Capitol Concert
When: January 19, 2014, 7:00-8:00pm
Where: Capitol Hall of Burgesses
What: Enjoy an evening of 18th-century music played by members of The Governor's Musick in the acoustically brilliant hall of the House of Burgesses. Hear music to delight the senses in a concert similar to one performed in June 1777. The candelit setting is a fitting backdrop for what Thomas Jefferson described as a "delightful recreation." $15 adults, $7.50 youths.
Tavern Ghost Walk
When: January 31, 2014, 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Shields Tavern
What: Learn of the ghosts that still haunt the taverns and historic buildings of Colonial Williamsburg. This family-friendly program is suitable for all ages and is wheelchair- and stroller-friendly. Enjoy spirited and interactive 21st-century folklore of the Revolutionary City. Tours leave from Shields Tavern. $12 adults; $7 children under 12
