Dangerous sea voyages were common with Haitians and Cubans who were Florida bound, but this is new for Mexican smugglers.  From sandy Mexican shores the illegals can see the San Diego city lights on clear nights...and they yearn for a new life in America.  Now migrants can board boats in the dark in their attempts to get here.  Mexican traffickers are charging $4,000 per person to smuggle them here, often changing boats along the way as a diversion tactic and for additional speed.  And authorities say that the crews will have less to tell about if they are captured.

Border pressure hasn't stopped the smuggling of migrants to America...it's just moved the action somewhere else.  And that somewhere else starts in a rickety boat from Mexico with inexperienced seamen, which is like gambling with lives on these dangerous transfers to speed boats.

It had to be by sea...it was the only thing left!

Email your thoughts.

And thank you for making me your Orange County Real Estate Connection.

Best regards, Michael A. Caruso

I must admit, if I were in their shoes and circumstances, I'd be dreaming of an "escape"... I once lived in South Africa for 3 years. My daughter was with me, and I'd shipped our whole household of goods (and a lifetime of memories, etc) there. Because of unsafe & difficult circumstances, we left in a hurry and rather abrubtly. It was the closest I've ever come to an "escape"... I returned to the States with my daughter 2 suitcases... no income, no job or place to live--- and I was so filled with shame at that time that I didn't even let my own mother know I'd returned for nearly 6 months. I started from scratch, rebuilding, hurting, trying to stay focused, praying, rebuilding. It's truly a heartache to think about all the people in this world, hurting day-to-day, just for food and a feeling of safety. I do believe in 'growing where we are planted', but sometimes, the soil itself is simply not conducive to any healthy growth... and then it gets down to ONE person, trying to change what only everyONE can accomplish together. I guess I just feel there are no easy answers or solutions, but there is definitely a need for greater understanding.
