Another weekend spent at the condo we are helping my daughter remodel.  Lots of progress this week.  More painting, of course...will the painting ever end?    More work on the tile, it is complete in the kitchen and a small amount of tile in the bath is next on the list.

All new light fixtures were purchased and installed.  I will have the lighting pictures in my next post.

The master bedroom furniture is complete.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the bedroom furniture was Nana's, purchased in 1939.  It was in very good condition, just too dated for my daughter.  I forgot to take a "before" but remembered in time to get this shot just after it was sanded:

dresser unfinished

Note the trim piece across the bottom and the

dated hardware.

Here is the updated, welcome to 2008, model after it's makeover:

black dresser

We used Ben Moore Impervo oil based paint.  It is

fabulous.  I have done many other pieces with it.

We refinished two dressers, two nightstands and a

mirror for a beautiful new Master Bedroom.  Photos of the completed room will be in a future post.

As I stated above there was a lot of painting going on and we actually made a decision to change direction and repaint an area a different color.  We brought blue into the condo and I will post on that when I have "after" photos of the complete work.

To catch up on previous posts regarding this condo transformation:

I am in the works of repainting a desk, coffee tables, bar stools and a tv stand. but I cant find the color I like the most.

What paint can do, that dresser is beautiful!

Sharon ~ It looks like everything is coming along nicely.  How did you apply the paint to the dresser? (brush, roller a combination of the two).  It doesn't even look like the same dresser!

Heather   I have used the same paint in baby blue for a rocking horse and toy box.  It is a wonderful paint.  I hope you find your color!

Kathy   We roughed up the original finish with an electric palm sander and fine paper.  Used a brush (for oil paint) to apply first coat.  After it dried, it was lightly sanded with x-fine paper by hand.  Second coat was applied, also using brush.  My daughter actually did it herself, and she has no experience.  I told her how to do it and she did the work.  The key is quality paint and quality brush.

Susan and Elaine     Thanks for the comments.  We love black, especially the combo of black and chrome (or in this case brushed nickel)

Justin   It is such a great feeling ending up with beautiful furniture that is great quality, family heirloom, and cost very little.  I have a couple of other great do-it-yourself ideas from this condo that I will be sharing soon!

Kristina   My favorite color is black, some people find that strange, but I just love it.  Thank you for your comment!

Sandy   You have made my day!  Thank you so much!  You won't have to wait a week, the next update is coming right out!

That looks so good, I've got several pieces to do, but keep procrastinating. Did you use a hand sander or electric one.  What steps did you take?

Cindy   We roughed up the original finish using an electric sander.  We painted a coat of Ben Moore Impervo Black.  We sanded using very fine paper, by hand.  We finished with a second coat of paint.  Stop procrastinating and get to work...you will be so proud of yourself and so glad you did!

Sharon, what a transformation!  I did the same with a find I got on the side of the road.  I have many of my grandmother's pieces of furniture, but I could never paint any of it.  Too many memories would be gone!

Terry  My daughter doesn't really have memories of the furniture as her grandmothers.  She was too young.  It has been in our home for many years and it was her furniture here and she took it with her when she first moved out.  She pretty much thinks of it as hers.

I've painted many yard sale finds with black and the finish is beautiful.

Wow Sharon,

The chest looks so current and the hardware you selected really set it off. Did you use a prime coat before applying the oil based Moore paint??

Cynthia  Thank you, we are very happy with it.  We did not use primer, for best results I believe it is recommended.

Susan   The paint is wonderful...Ben Moore Impervo.  It is an oil based paint, so clean up isn't fun, but it is worth it for the end result.
