Must-do tips to get your Home ready for Sale!

Offering your Santa Rosa home for sale in the New Year? Do this first.

If you're getting read to put your Santa Rosa home on the market, stop and take a critical look.

Is the house the best that it can be, or do you need to do a bit of de-cluttering, deep cleaning, and a few cosmetic repairs?

De-cluttering comes first - because it makes those other chores easier. So go through the closets and cupboards, getting rid of anything you don't either use or love. Now is a great time to make a donation to a local thrift store or homeless shelter, so just take a deep breath and part with that gift sweater you've never worn and the great slacks that no longer fit.

Do the same with the kitchen cupboards and your "toy shelves." If you don't use it or love it, banish it.

Cutting back on furniture can also make your house appear more spacious, so see what you can do without. If you don't want to part with it, put it in storage until you move into your next home.

Cleaning is next - hire someone to help you scrub the ceilings, light fixtures, tile grout, and all the corners. Make the windows and fixtures sparkle, and replace the shower curtain that's looking tired. Rent a carpet shampooer, or hire a professional.

Now take another critical look. Is there a wall or a door that needs new paint? Is there a cracked switch plate? Does a faucet drip? Fix all those details, so prospective buyers walk in and think "Wow."

A good home stager can help with that last step, and I'll be glad to give you the names of some pros right here in Santa Rosa and surrounding communities. For a small fee they'll consult with you and show you what you need to do to make your home stand out from all the rest. Or, you can hire them to do it for you.

When you present your home at its best, you'll sell faster and for more money, so do take this all important step.

If you're not sure what you need to do, get in touch. I'll be glad to stop by and give you some pointers.

See you next time…

Good tips, Romy!  I think we all just get used to our stuff to the point where we don't even see it any more.  I know the space in my house that would need the most work if we were getting ready to sell is the space around my desk!  Talk about clutter!

Thank you Marge! You are right, the home office is a good place to start de-cluttering!

Happy New Year!
