Change the LOCKS on YOUR New HOME ~ Just to Be Safe

Change the LOCKS on YOUR New HOME.

I always recommend to my LAKE ARROWHEAD buyers, after closing an escrow on their new home, to get the door locks changed. Nowadays, you can even have them re keyed.

"Oh, I hadn't thought about that." Most say. And it is probably the last thing they are thinking about. Their mind is on getting the utilities changed, the movers lined up and maybe the place spiffed up.

It's not that I am a suspicious person (ok, maybe I am, a tad), but you have no idea how many keys have been handed out to the former owners family & friends over the years. SO, to feel safe & sound, you might as well have a locksmith come out and take care of the locks. It's actually fairly inexpensive.

Here are a couple local locksmiths for your convenience:

A MOUNTAIN LOCKSMITH : 26882 California 189, Blue Jay CA 92317 (909) 337-6479

BURKITTS LOCK & KEY:  650 Forest Shade Rd, Crestline ca 92325 (909) 337-3452

Good advice. I give my listing keys to the new buyer, but remind them that these keys were in a lockbox and may have been copied.

Excellent advice! When I was a newbie I used to give buyers fancy colored keys, duplicating the keys that were in the lockbox.  No more. I soon realized that some sellers have given out dozens of keys to their home over the years, including some to workmen while making repairs in preparation for selling. Any of those people could have access to my buyers' home.

Now I always advise buyers to re-key the locks right away when they take possession.
