I just read a “Me Agreement” written by Liz Wallace and it inspired me to share my thoughts on an important task for agents who may want to “jump ship.”  I can remember when I was thinking of making a move, after every 10 year stint with an office.  I think many broker/owners begin to take their seasoned agents for granted after 10 years.  Not every broker/owner believes that the grass just might be greener elsewhere!!!  Ha, believe it…. it just might be a real vision!!

One of the first steps that an agent in search of a new landing pad should always consider doing is to visit offices unannounced.  It’s not unheard of for an agent to pop into an office to pick up a brochure on new construction or preferably speak with the broker/owner about a listing or another real estate matter.

While I was there, I would always ask for a tour of the office.  Unannounced visits are very important.  It’s an opportunity for the agent to see what the office looks like on a typical day; to notice how many agents are in the office working; to count how many agents are chit chatting rather than working; and to basically get the flavor of everyday life in real estate at that office.

If a broker/owner knows there is an appointment scheduled to hire a seasoned agent, you know the office will not be in disarray, and the agents will be aware that the interview is an important one.

Before you make a decision as to whom you will interview (yes, you, the agent, should be interviewing the broker/owner) give each office a surprise visit.  You may be surprised at what you see and hear!!!
