Ma'alaea Banyans is a 4-story oceanfront condominium complex with 78 units that all face head-on to the ocean with stunning in-your-face ocean views. It was built in 1979 and units are fee-simple ownership. Offshore is the famous Freight Trains surf which draws surfers and an audience the few times a year when it kicks up. The majority of units are 1 bedroom/1 bath with 555+ sq. ft. of living area. There are also twenty 2 bedroom/2 bath units with 785+ sq. ft. of living area. Construction is masonry and amenities include a pool jacuzi, and BBQ.
Ma'alaea Banyans borders the Waihee drainage ditch which is normally dry but it has overflowed during heavy rains and flooded ground floor units. The County of Maui has prepared a drainage improvement plan including a draft environmental study dated July 2012. As of January 2014 there are no signs of pending construction but there are reports that it is scheduled for Spring 2014 which is not far away. -
