Trash Talk in Kentlands

The sounds of this morning in Kentlands were the cawing calls of crows. Evidently, we have a flock of crows visiting the neighborhood. Crows are regular wintertime visitors in Maryland and in urban areas they are best known for ripping open trash bags and making a big mess to be cleaned up by local residents.

The Kentlands Citizens Assembly does require residents to use trash cans, with secure lids, rather than just trash bags on collection days. Frequently, surplus trash goes into a bag that is sitting next to the garbage can.

The crows are in town and it is time for all to be more diligent with trash disposal. Be sure to use your trash cans rather than the bags that the crows love so much to rip apart. It may be a good time to treat yourself to a new garbage can for 2014!

Happy New Year!

Roy, we have the same problem here too. I started spraying my bags with kitchen cleaner before I sit them out (something like 409) and it keeps the crows away. Trash cans are good as long as it's not a windy day. Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Not a big fan of crows.  It must be a throwback to Edgar Allen Poe.  We have a bigger issue with raccoon's and trash.

Roy, this is a great reminder for people.  I'm sure that over the holidays, there was a little extra to be disposed of and those side bags accumulated.  But, don't feed the crows, LOL.

Hi Roy, I see the crows are making all the citizens in the Kentlands get out and clean up their communities. You might can't control them, but it's nice the folks there understand the importance of keeping the area cleaned up.

Wishing you and Delores a very Happy New Year!
