Love Nature? You'll Love Maryland 
On the first day of 2014, I went to a local park and walked in the woods. It was the official start to my New Years resolution.....
"Spend More Time Outside in Natural Environments"
I always feel better when I am outside. My mind clears out and relaxes into the rythym of walking in the woods.
So to help me keep my resolution, I am sharing some of Maryland's Best State and Regional Parks for you to explore. At Wheaton Regional Park,
I saw this labyrinth made of holly & fir tree limbs. The wooded area is adjacent to Brookside Gardens and you can easily spend an hour walking without crossing the same path.
Not far down the road is the Matthew Henson Trail. I've walked this trail to Rock Creek Park which is an awesome hiking/biking trail connecting Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland. In fact, one of the most picturesque walks in Maryland is in Rock Creek Park at Lake Needwood and Lake Frank. There are over 13 miles of trails in the woods and along the lakeside.
The Capital Cresent Trail winds it way around the Metropolitan area. Not too far from the Buyer's Edge office in Bethesda Maryland, I walk a portion of this trail several mornings a week with a friend. On these days, it's the walking and the talking that lifts my spirits. Reconnecting with a dear high school friend motivates me to get outside, despite the colder weather.
If you hike just one trail in Maryland, it should be the Billy Goat Trail along the Potomac River. You will be suprised by the raw natural beauty in an area so close to Washington DC.
