What's Your Low Impact Living Index?

I just tried this out and I scored a 150..  100 being average, could it be the 3 cars I own?  One thing in particular that I love is the graphs and breakdowns at the end of the calculator.  It tells you what the cost vs. savings is for small (CFLS's) and large (Solar PV Systems) changes.

Check it out and post your score!

What makes this calculator special, you ask? Oh so many things. First, it covers ALL of the environmental impacts of your household--- carbon emissions, energy use, water use, trash production, runoff, and more. We give you not just your carbon footprint but your ENTIRE environmental footprint. And we give you a score-- a Low Impact Living Index, or LILI-- so you can know where you stand vs. other households!

So please give our new impact calculator a test drive! Click here to get started. And if you have any comments on it, we want to hear them! Please send an email to feedback@lowimpactliving.com.

Most people would consider me to be less than green...

My F350 wasn't an available choice for vehicle.  In fact, I didn't see any diesels...  I selected a F1504wd... I think that would be the least efficient vehicle to choose from.  I also couldn't select my 1971 Jeepster with a 1992 engine.  I selected a 1992, but the mileage is seriously minimal.

Several of the projects were already completed, so I checked them off.  I was a 95 before... and 85 after checking off those things.

I got a 53 - it says I'm pretty low impact.  That's actually a lot better than I thought.  Interesting... I do know I have to replace all my light bulbs.  Working on it!

Thanks Lisa, thats a great link. I scored a 80 so lots of room to improve. The size of your lot has a larger impact than I would have expected.

That was a lot of fun and very educational. My score was 59 -- I was surprised!  Lots of good information.

I thought it was pretty fun too!  I have actually passed it on to a client of mine who is selling her house, she was amazed at the little items she could do that made a pretty significant impact.  She also liked seeing the cost vs return in terms of savings.

I wish the site had a better way to print out your results..  that would be my only suggestion to them.

I hope everyone makes this a great day!

I got a 98...old house.  But, I noticed that you don't have an option under heating for wood/pellet stoves.  I don't know if it would raise or lower my score though.  Less energy vs. more smoke in the air.

I guess I am doing pretty well at 46. That's the luxury of a south facing new construction home with a green rooftop, I guess. Now, if I could just convince the condo association to allow me to put solar panels on the roof and sell the electricity back to the building...I'm working on it.

Thanks for posting this - it was great fun.
