Every time I read the Preamble to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, I get all goose-pimply. These words carry some of the most powerful and inspiring ideas ever put to paper. When I read them, it brings forth a sense of responsibility, commitment, and gratitude.
"Under all is the land." As REALTORS® we have accepted a responsibility to our customers, our communities, and to our Country to assure the "highest and best use" of the land along with "widest distribution of land ownership." We are charged with the responsibility of helping through our practice of real estate to:
- assure "adequate housing" in our communities,
- build "functioning cities,"
- develop "productive industries and farms,"
- and preserve a "healthful environment".
These are heavy-duty responsibilities that call for an extraordinary commitment. The Preamble goes on to say "Such interests impose obligations beyond those of ordinary commerce. They impose grave socialresponsibility and a patriotic duty to which REALTORS® should 
dedicate themselves, and for which they should be diligent in preparing themselves." As REALTORS,® we are called upon to to preserve and improve upon the professional standards of the industry, uphold the highest of ethical standards, to strive to be as knowledgeable as possible in our profession, and to freely share our knowledge and experience with others in the industry.
I am extremely grateful to be involved in a profession and with other professionals who share such high standards and ideals.
