After a recent trip to Costa Rica, my eight year became obsessed with surfing. Thank goodness we live on the coast of North Carolina where surfing is a popular sport and something that my son can enjoy for years to come.
A little boy's request to Santa for a surfboard, left me wondering what the heck kind of surfboard do I buy? What other equipment is necessary for surfing? Are there certain things to wear, to have, to learn? As you have probably guessed, I am totally clueless when it comes to surfing. I asked around and received different advice from everyone.... including google! Santa's job is really tough!
On my way to the office one day, I stopped by Marsh's Surf Shop in Atlantic Beach, and I am proud to say that I am no longer clueless. The folks at Marsh's are fantastic! Not only did they help me choose the perfect surfboard for my kid, they suggested many wonderful stocking stuffers (Decals, boardwax, board combs, etc.), helped me pick out the "coolest" board shorts and rash guards, and they did it all with big smiles on their faces and excitement in their voices.
I could tell immediately, that Mick and his family & staff, absolutely LOVE surfing... and The Crystal Coast. I was so impressed with my experience that on returning home from shopping, I did a little research. It seems that I am not the only one who appreciates and adores the folks at Marsh's Surf Shop. They receive rave reviews all over the internet and their reputation in town is TOPS!
Marsh's Surf Shop was established in 1972, by Surfing Hall of Fame Legend, Bette Marsh. Sadly, Bette passed away in 1992 due to complications following an auto accident. When Tanner received a copy of "The Encyclopedia of Surfing" for Christmas, we were very impressed to find that Bette Marsh was included for her role in the sport of Surfing on the Eastern Coast!
The shop is currently owned and operated by Bette's son, Mickey Marsh and is managed by his children Mick Jr. and Frances Marsh. I imagine that Mick III, born in Feb. 2013 will take over one day, but in the meantime.... You can enjoy him modeling the latest Surf Fashions on Marsh's Facebook Page.
