I have been asked to speak with a top-notch panel of relocation experts at a three-hour seminar on April 9th in Teaneck, NJ at the Heritage Pointe of Teaneck and Active Adult Communitie.

They have invited seniors contemplating a future move to a free symposium for a step-by-step guide through the complete relocation process.

Entitled: Clues to Getting the Most Out of Selling One's Home.

As you know I have written about the needs that seniors face when they are selling their home in When It's Time To Move On.

In the next 15 years we are going to have many homeowners becoming seniors. Many are going to be selling their homes and moving in to Active Adult Communities or in to Assistant Living. In order for them to make these moves they have to sell their homes.

My breakout session topic will be: "Preparing Your Home for Sale in Today's Market". I will be talking about how important it is that their home looks better then the other competing homes on the market. I will be addressing their clutter issues, downsizing and how staging will help them sell faster in a sluggish market.

I will be providing them with many referrals, from Realtors to Movers and everything in between to make their transition a smooth one.

I will be bringing more information on the outcome of this event in April.

You go girl!  But hey, many of us are already seniors so the 15 year thing might not quite apply :-)

This is great and so needs to be talked about.  I had a daughter recently tell me she would not have her mother hire me even though the mother liked me alot...she felt I was indulging her feelings too much and that she didn't need ME to handle her gently that I was not being pushy enough.  I can't wait to see how she handles it when mom digs in her heels because she wasn't given the time to make the emotional move along with the physical move.  I know for the daughter it was more convenient that mom hurry.  Please please let me have someone like you to help should I need the nudge to move.  You deserve congratulations.

Thank you Terrylynn -  It is so true that family members do not have the or patience to handle an elderly parent when it come time to move and downsize, it can be emotionally draining.

Having someone who is organized in handling the move and the downsizing takes a lot of pressure off of the family. You really have to show compassion toward these homeowners during this stressful time of moving.

Hi Barbara, First of all - Good luck and I know that the this senior market truly needs an experienced  professional like yourself!  I had a wonderful experience myself (http://activerain.com/blogsview/407294/Managing-a-Senior-Move) and found I got so much out of it! I hope to learn more about this area of expertise so I can add it to my portfolio.  Do let us know how it went and I'll be thinking of you on the 9th as it is my birthday!  Again, good luck and have fun! Barbara!  Last fall I was one of 100+ exhibitors in a "Boomers Expo".  One of my fave lines from a visitor was "I'm never moving!  They'll have to carry me out feet first!"  No downsizing for him - Nope!  Seriously, good luck - sounds like you'll have a more receptive audience!  Julie

Maggie -Checked out your post and left a comment. I can appreciate how you felt about the staging. Thanks for your kind words and HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON APRIL 9th! I will let all know how it went.

Julia - I know that older people set in their ways can be difficult. I hoping they will respond to what I am telling them. I figure they are there because they are interested in moving. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the good luck wishes.
