Huntsville Alabama Weather January 2014 Village of Providence

The winter weather in Huntsville Alabama is considered by most to be a milder climate particularly for someone like me from Northern Illinois and yes Northern Alabama does have a milder climate, however, it does get cold here as short lived as it may be.  Like much of the country Huntsville has experienced extreme cold temps and when that happens we get to see on those rare occasions scenes like the photo below.

Frozen Fountain in the Village of Providence

It was 7 degrees on my ride into work this morning and about the same yesterday.  However, for anyone wanting to move to the Northern Alabama area because of the milder climate or employment...this will all be gone shortly!  The rest of the week temperatures are expected to climb into the 40's and be in the lower 60's this weekend.  So, no need to cancel your relocation plans...feel free to search my Madison & Huntsville Alabama website for the home of your dreams.

If you need a knowledgeable real estate professional in Madison or Huntsville Alabama area, why don't you let me Google that for you! I also know outstanding agents in all states and Canada should you need help relocating to a new area.

Nick, your temperatures were even colder than ours this morning, we were at 10 degrees.

My In-Laws lived in Georgia about a half hour from the Alabama line and December and January were basically sweat shirt weather and no need for a coat.

This deep freeze is completely insane.  I'm still wrapping my head around them cancelling school.  What do northern climates do for school in winter?  It's not like kids in Viriginia don't own coat and gloves.

George-people are surprised to see how cold it gets here, but the fact is that it doesn't last very long.

Chris Ann-schools get canceled for the cold and snow, but they do have a higher tolerance for the climate extremes.  I got an email from a friend who works for the Chicago Public School system saying they had closed school because of the cold...of course the wind chill was about -40 in Chicago!  Up north the people are used to the cold and deal with it...here in the south if a snowflake was reported falling...suddenly there is a run on grocery stores for milk & gas stations (which is kind of funny because roads are immediately closed!)  Any cars not getting the road closure notification are subject to flipping on their back at the mere sight of a snow flake!

i can understand the -40 cancellation.  Here, they really were worried about kids getting frostbite waiting for the bus (not sure that was a real possiblity, but we've become a CYA society) and more importantly, the buses engines not starting in the cold.  The latter I understand.

Wow Nick I am glad I did stop by. I can hardly believe that I could see ice in Sweet Home Alabama. I always thought of it as the south and never would I expect to see a frozen fountain.

Nick I can not believe the picture, you sure you did not photo shop the ice?:)) OK all kidding aside I guess we have no right to complain the "we are freezing" in 50+ degree cloudy weather at night:)) and cloudy 60's weather in the day time!, Endre

I don't recall a time when there was so much conversation about the weather as it affects so many across the country. I won't even mention the temperature this morning.

Endre-yes, pardon me if I don't send a lot of sympathy your way!  :)  Especially when there's 2 feet of snow and negative 0 temps at my house in Illinois!

Hi Nick: The fountain may be frozen but the greens still look very lively except for the two trees sandwiching the fountain. Nice shot.

Nick, Wow, I hope that does not cause an issue with the pump or system that makes the water flow!
