Why Should You Hire a Home Stager?

Why Should You Hire a Home Stager?

I think there are a lot of people today who like to do things on their own. We try to learn how to fix plumbing/electrical issues, we'll do DIY home improvements and even try to sell our home without a realtor. And there are a few people who can accomplish these things on their own. But there are also a lot of people who think "why should I hire someone when I can do this myself?" There's a billboard in my area that shows a woman holding a wrench while water pours out of her pipe. The title is "When DIY turns OMG". Some things are just best left to the professionals.

When it comes to home staging, a lot of people think all a home stager does is make sure things are clean, tell you to de-clutter and use neutral paint colors. So why should you hire a home stager when you think to yourself "I can do that!" You should ask yourself some questions first before trying to tackle staging your home.

What exactly does de-cluttering mean?

What should I take down and what should I leave up?

Will I be as critical in my own home as someone who is seeing it for the very first time?

Will I be able to see the issues I've been living with for 5, 10 or 15 years?

Is this really the best layout and use for all of my furniture?

Can I really pick out wall colors that will complement my flooring?

Can I come up with a solution for that one space I've never been able to figure out what to do with?

It's hard to be brutally honest with yourself sometimes. When you try to do what a home stager does, it can wind up being counter productive. You could wind up going too far with de-cluttering and take out all of the personality. You feel your bulky furniture works just fine in the living room when in fact it's making it appear smaller than it is. That paint color looked just fine on the sample, not so much now that it's on the wall. Or you'll miss issues all together just because you've been living with them for so long

Why should you hire a home stager?  Because a home stager will see things for the first time, just like your potential buyers. We'll be able to pick out those perceived negatives and come up with a plan to fix them. We see things differently than you. It's not just about de-cluttering and cleaning. It's about creating that warm and welcoming feeling, placing those little details that really pull a room together and creating an environment that potential buyers will fall in love with.

Are you kidding, a good home stager like yourself is a great investment to anyone who has plans to sell in the future. Keep up the great work, as I'm sure those that you have worked for, already understand the value they received.

Suzanne, these are all good reasons to get a home stager. The third party intervention  can help convince the seller of what the agent has been saying all along.
