Home buyers being photographed while viewing houses for sale 1/14

It is not a bad idea for active bloggers to take a look at the available statistics for their old blogs. A topic that attracted a large number of clicks or comments may be something worth further discussion.

One of my August, 2013, blogs has attracted over 12,700 clicks and over 100 comments. That is the largest number of clicks for my 2013 blogs. The topic of home buyers being photographed while viewing houses for sale is still worth much consideration.

Some buyer agents are advising their clients to hold their comments until they leave the home that is being viewed.

What are your thoughts on the use of video cameras that photograph prospects and agents as they view homes for sale?  The recorded comments can be very interesting as well as very invasive.

I always thought it would be a good idea during open houses to post a sign at the front door stating " Cameras in use" just to discourage any would be thieves.

I always assume that we could be on candid camera and advise buyers that they can ask questions, however don't start jumping up and down saying, "This is the one!" - just in case!

P.S. I will have to go back and review your older post along with all of the comments. I am curious what others have to say about the privacy issue.

As a listing agent or seller It is useful, as a Buyer or their agent it is creepy and I would not want it. There are many homes now with cameras everywhere, In NH they can not record sound without letting all people know they ae being recorded.

Whose taking photos of who? Is the seller taking the photos, or the buyers as they walk through the property? Anyway...I don't like it.

Roy, it is so easy now to set up cameras, and bet there are many more homes having video that we think!   That is A LOT of views and comments, but a hot topic!

Roy, I remember that specific blog and I guess new home buyers are concerned about getting photographed? Lots of clicks is fantastic.

Hi Roy, If a seller is doing this and I know about it, I would wisk the buyers out of there. This is really not a proper way to show a home for sale. If the owners want to do this to their friends, they wouldn't have many for very long. Creepy!

The invasion of our privacy is becoming an every day experience. I think it is prudent to advise home buyers that they may be on video when viewing houses and their comments may be recorded. It is okay to talk about the house but everyone should be aware of the circumstances.

Roy, this is a great post - HEADS UP, Buyers and Agents - you have been warned. I think this is a good avenue/tool for Sellers. These are strangers going through a sellers home. I would like a home video as an extra protection for my personal property because you can not put everything under lock and key. Also, we have an OPEN HOUSE issue where an agent(s) can not be completely in every room at any moment.

It is sometimes a good practice to revisit old blogs and reblogs. We might even find some good ideas for current posts.
