YouTube Thursdays 1/9/2014 - Short and Sweet ( Micro-videos)
I know you’ve been hearing it from me for several years, keep your videos short - as in under three minutes. Naturally, if it is a listing video, that criteria changes. However, for your community features, events, and information videos, brevity is king. Many of mine are under two minutes. In my opinion, it’s plenty of time to get the message across.
However, there’s a new trend emerging that's worth noting - micro videos. Micro-videos are approximately 6 - 15 seconds in length and can be used on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites. Many social marketing gurus suggest using these teasers, along with your other regular marketing videos. (Join here)
Vine or Instagram for Micro Videos?
Twitter, who tweets short and sweet, has an app called Vine for iOS, Android, and windows. Vine allows its users to create six second long animated GIF-like video loops. You can view them in the app, or in the midst of your Twitter stream.
Instagram also has an app for creating micro-videos, but has some additional features. Plus, it gives you the ability to record up to 15 seconds of video. Users also get the Instagram filter feature and a video stabilization option to fix a shaky recording.
Micro Videos - Another marketing tool for your business?
Just imagine trying to capture your brand message in fifteen seconds or less.
It’s an idea that’s sure to get the creative juices flowing. You have to admit, it’s a challenging thought. I’m going to be giving it some serious consideration.
