James David Power, founder of the renowned J.D. Power and Associates global marketing information services, will be appearing at the Grant R. Brimhall Library, 1401 E Janss Road (map) to discuss his new biography – Power: How J.D. Power Became the Auto Industry’s Adviser, Confessor and Eyewitness to History by Sarah Morgans and Bill Thorness.

J.D. Power began his Westlake Village-based global marketing company sitting at his kitchen table in Calabasas in 1968 focusing on researching customer satisfaction in the automotive industry. For over forty years, consumers have relied on the findings of J.D. Power and Associates in directing their attention towards the vehicle of their choice – likewise, the automotive manufacturers have paid close attention to the J.D. Power and Associates reports in making major decisions in their manufacturing. Although the company started out relatively small and local with the headquarters remaining in Westlake Village, it has spread out to include locations throughout North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific.

After serving four years in the Coast Guard, Mr. Power, who was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, joined the Ford Motor Company as a financial analyst followed by working for Marplan as a marketing research consultant for General Motors. This knowledge and experience along with having also been a marketing research executive for J.I. Case Company and a director of corporate planning for McCulloch Corporation gave him the expertise as to what the consumer needed and wanted in an automotive; thus inspiring him to begin his research company.

The book on his latest biography will be on sale at the event for $22, a portion of which will benefit the ‘Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library’. Mr. Power will be more than happy to sign your copy of the book. For further information you can contact the library at either 805-449-2660 or visit their website at www.toaks.org/library.

I have heard of J. D. Powers but this is the first time I have seen a picture.  Sounds like a great event.
