I challenge you to make 2014 your giant killing year. I recently wrote a blog about David and Goliath as it relates to the challenge small brokerages face when dealing with large brokerages. I think many would look at the small brokerages as those at a disadvantage because they don't have the power of a nationwide name behind them, but I see that differently, kind of like David saw Goliath.

In the story of David and Goliath, many see a small ruddy haired boy facing a very large man with the most powerful weapons of his day. I can imagine that the average reader of the story envisions David shaking in his sandals worrying about his outcome.

I don't think that's the way David entered the engagement at all. Actually, I think David went into the engagement wondering why the giant wasn't shaking in his boots. David didn't have the state of the art weapons to combat the giant, but he had a weapon he was confident in. He had a weapon that he had mastered. He had a weapon that he knew was able to keep him out of the giant's range, but the giant was firmly in his range.

What about you and your business? Do large offices make you feel inferior? Why? If you work for a small company, you have the ability to turn on a dime, and you can be nimble and quick in your decision making. You can use things like online presence-marketing, out of the view of the lumbering giant, to give you an online advantage where the clients are. Before the giant knows you're there, you've passed him in SEO.

David didn't cower in the presence of a giant. No, he was as bold as a lion, and he did everything he said he would do. I challenge you to see yourself as a real estate powerhouse who is destined to dominate your market, and then get to it. It doesn't matter if you're in a boutique shop or a big name company. The reality is, you work for you. What you do, depends on you. Make 2014 your giant killing year.
