Why Join and Use Linked In?

LinkedInAs a Virtual Assistant in my Hendersonville Keller Williams Office I am often asked about certain social media formats and why anyone would use them. People ask me all the time about whether they should use Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain or Linked In.

For Real Estate I think Active Rain is the Number One place to be. And having a Facebook Business Page is a really great thing if you have the time to update it regularly.

Today I was asked about Linked In and it made me think about how I use it and why I like it. I posted my profile a long time ago and have tried to keep it updated. I am not very good at it, but I am there. I think it is a good tool for getting found. If people are thinking about using you, they may want to research you a bit to see if you could be a good fit for their needs. And everyone has their favorite place to research.

But for me, the best part of Linked In are the groups. Like Active Rain, I have used Linked In as an educational tool. I have joined a few groups and get a feed right to my email for the topics I am interested in. For example I am in a Wordpress group that talks a lot about issues and how to solve them. I have received some very good advise on a few topics I asked about, but mostly it has allowed me to see what the latest issues are, or what kinds of things I need to pay attention to. I use this information to take better care of a few websites I maintain for several clients. I have learned a lot over the last six or eight months after joining. When I see a topic in the feed that piques my interest, I will click and read all of the  comments for a particular question.

I look forward to the email feeds, and try to read at least one thread a day. I belong to real estate groups, an ActiveRain group, a photography group and a wordpress group. Of course, I don't have time to read them all, but I do go through the lists and try to learn something each day. It keeps me on my toes.

Although I have never been contacted for a real estate transaction, or a V.A. job, I did find my new best Wordpress Buddy there. A coder, SEO pro and website template designer, Greg Reindel has turned out to be a fantastic find. I highly recommend him. He is out of Houston. He assisted me in a great design for a new website for a client and did a fantastic job, making my client very, very happy.

If you are looking for a second place to learn, after Active Rain of course, I highly recommend the groups in Linked In. For me that is the best reason for having an account. Check it out!

Are any of you using the groups? How do you like them?

Jerri,

Good post. I use Linked in, but have not been as active as I should be in the groups.

Thanks for the reminder.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks for reblogging Bob! I'm in the process of evaluating all of my social media marketing and this post reinforces why I should stay with Linkedin :)
