Charleston is a Great American City

Charleston, SC
Did you happen to see the article in the latest Parade?  It covered Great Things to do in Great American Cities, and Charleston, SC was the second city listed!

I've always known that there are countless things to do in Charleston.  Especially on a warm spring day and in the heart of out beautiful city.

Downtown Charleston has the best of just about everything.  You can take a walk through White Point Gardens right on the tip of the peninsula and stroll down the Battery.  You can take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the city and learn a few things from a licenced tour guide.  You can wander through The Market area where hundreds of vendors have beautiful things for sale.  You can meander through the old cobblestone roads and awe at the intricate architecture displayed in homes and churches alike.

Here's what the article said about Charleston:

"Wander through this gracious Southern city's cobblestone streets to enjoy its gorgeous antebellum architecture. The perfumed scent of jasmine in the air adds to the feeling that you've stepped back into another era.Carriage Tour

Don't Miss: South Carolina author Sue Monk Kidd offers an insider's tip: Walk to the Battery and take a ringside seat near the harborside gazebo. "The view-of the gardens, the houses, the boats passing by-is the best in the city," she says. The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon (where American patriots were held during the Revolutionary War) is one of the most significant Colonial buildings in the country. The kids will learn all about it from the costumed guides and animatronics that regale listeners with legends of patriots and pirates.

Surprise Gem:
On the Historic Charleston Foundation's "Festival of Houses and Gardens" tours (mid-March to mid-April), you can peer past wrought-iron gates and columned porches into some of the city's most impressive private residences."

So if you're itching to get out and travel this spring, or any time for that matter, Charleston, South Carolina is the perfect city to visit!

Thank you for sharing this!  Charleston is a great city to visit AND live in.  I have been here for over 15 years and the beauty of our area is still amazing to me.

Tracy: You're right.  The only drawback to living here is that you hardly have time to play tourist.  We have so many things to do around Charleston, but rarely get the chance to do them.

Jim and Maria, a nice post of your wonderful city. We spend a weekend there several years ago, took the tour in a horse drawn carriage; loved the mansions, restaurants. Lucky you to live in such a great place!

Debbie: Thanks!  We do love being here in Charleston.  I have to admit that my favorite thing is that we are so close to the beach!
