Twitter and Flickr activity is big. Tough to draw a straight line between activity in general and how it may lead to some economic benefit, but with so many people, using so many devices and the device count is increasing daily, one would think there must be a pony in there somewhere.
Micheal Kelley wrote an article in BusinessInsider.com, titled "Stunning Glowing Maps Show Twitter and Flickr Activity in Every Major City In The World." The image below of the US is taken from the article.
The photos are from several million tweets and Flickr photos put together in 50 maps that include several major cities around the world. Orange dots are Flickr photos, blue dots are tweets, and white dots are for both. In the US photo, above the major cities of Texas are pretty easy to spot-Dallas-Fort Worth, moving south to Austin and San Antonio, and to the east Houston.
In many cases the road networks are pretty well-defined too. I hope that does not mean there's a lot of tweeting and Flickring going on while people are driving.
I guess I'm missing the boat since I rarely tweet and never Flickr. Is this an activity that can be outsourced to good effect?
It's an interesting article if you have a few minutes to spare.
