Choices seem to be limited with the

precast concrete fences.

I have seen these precast concrete fences in many apartment communities, shopping centers and office building throughout the Sacramento region and thought that it would be fairly simple to repair them. Since the product is sold in pieces, it would be just a matter of finding the manufacturer and get some.

precast concrete fence repairsSo I went to the site to view the job and got a chance to see the damages and get an idea as to how they were constructed. It is when things have been broken or damaged that we get a chance to see how it was build. These concrete walls consist of some basic designs that, on a lighter scale, resemble a child’s construction toys.

The precast concrete structure that I saw consisted of concrete columns with these precast concrete pieces dropped into a slot on both columns. No fasteners or cement is used to hold it together, gravity and the slots hold everything in place.

So I started calling around to find the concrete products that I needed. First I had to find the manufacturer or distributors that carry this stuff and then see if it matched in design. I spent a lot of time going through several people, and email my photos to discover that this is going to be tough, if not impossible to get.

What I have learned today is that the manufacturers do not sell their own products in pieces. They will construct walls and fences with the precast products that they produce, but will not sell to you to fix it yourself. They said the profit margins are too low to produce such limited numbers. But they will fix it for you with their crew.

The last gentlemen stated that the minimum job cost is $2000.00.

I think we will pass this one back to the owner of the property.

That is a key factor in making decisions upfront that is often overlooked. If it breaks, how hard is it to repair?

Good morning, Tom. I have only seen 1 or 2 of these in my career. They remind me of the re-enforced earth I see on the freeways.

Well, gravity works.  And, as to the fix(es), sometimes it's better to pass on the job!

Not sure of the specs for this product.  What I do know is that retaining walls of any type, material or design are to be avoided.

This type of precast concrete fencing can be seen all over; I don't think many considered the repair of it Aaron.

We have it stretched along the freeways in many places Michael, it isn't used to retain soil, it's just a fence.

Lenn - I don't think this product is designed to retain the soil, it's just a barrier.

Tom.  I realized that.  I just remembered the retaining wall experiences when I saw the photo.

Hi Tom.

Where there is a will there is a way. Make it happen and fix the fence yourself.

I would have no issue in repairing the fence my self.

Have a great time and Just do it!

Have a good day in Placerville.

Best, Clint McKie

Holy cow, $2000? Does putting a plant in front of the hole count as fixing it?

Oh wow, that is not a very cost effective fence when future repairs are factored into the mix. Wonder if the product comes with a warning label - bet not. D

The plant idea may be discussed Suzanne. :)

Heck a nice wood fence could even be build in front for that amount.

Until recently, I had no idea that the materials are not readily available Debb. At the time of installation I'm sure there were talks of guarantees and long life.

I'm not sure Toni. At some point this wall will be considered dangerous.
