Natural Scents For Your Home -
Today I was reading an article on the Linkedin group, Real Estate Professionals Referral Group, by Florence Mattar, "101 Household Tips for Every Room." It struck a chord because this time of year our windows are closed and we aren't getting fresh air. Our homes can seem stale, which means we need to do something to freshen them up a bit, even if we aren't selling them.
While perusing this list, several stood out because they are so easy. These would be helpful for selling homes and especially if a home is vacant during the listing period.
How often do you sterilize sponges in your house? Like never! This quick trick in your microwave has dual duty. Not only can you sterilize your sponges, but you can deodorize a room because the microwave is venting while it's on. How easy to soak your sponges in white vinegar and lemon juice, then microwave for a minute!
Another natural scent in the article is to boil orange peel and cloves. How easy is that? I'm wondering if it would be wise before an open house or showing to have simmered this but add an orange stuffed with those cloves. The burner can be turned off and left as is.
Another idea is to hang a bundle of chalk in your closet to collect odors and humidity. The chalk acts like an odor sponge, soaking odors in your closet, thus eliminating even more odors.
Tying a bundle of eucalyptus in the shower sounds pretty good if you're short like I am! Otherwise it would be KO'd when standing in the shower. But the scent of eucalyptus sounds refreshing.
Vinegar can be used as a cleaning tool and a deodorizer. Dripping a few drops into a drain in vacant properties keeps them smelling fresh when you aren't there.
And one you'd never think of - drip a couple drops of essential oil on a toilet paper roll, then hang it on the dispenser with toilet paper to add a bit of fragrance.
The other ideas are a bonus and may be helpful!
