Homeless woman called me yesterday

By
Real Estate Agent with John L. Scott Sp34627

I was pretty excited!  I was prospecting and got 2 leads!  Talk about positive feedback.  One was a referral and the other filled out my website referral form.  Wow!

One was legit and we are going out househunting on Sat.

The other lady started with saying she could only go up to $500/month.  That was odd.  It is really hard to buy a home for that in Boise  She told be she was on disablility.  I asked how much.  $671/month.  I asked if she was on the special section 8 buyers program.  This maches the tenants share and put in a account so the client can someday by a home.  She thought she was.  So I asked about how much downpayment she had.   She seemed confused.

Then she started talking about the Salvation Army....  What the lady told her.  Oh oh.  She told me she had to find a place by Feb. 8. She told me that she just moved to Boise and her brother sold the mobile home she was planning to stay in and locked the little bit of money into a CD that he couldn't touch.  At this point I asked her where I she was living.  She told me she was homeless.  I already knew she had been on disablility since 1998 and that she was a grandma.  I asked if she was at a shelter.  She said Santuary.  At least its a good one but it is still a shelter and she still has to leave everyday during work hours.  At this point I asked for the person at the Salvation Army she was working with.  She knew the me but not the phone number.

I told her I was unlikely to be able to help her but I knew someone who ran a rooming house.  I would work a little bit.   I called the lady and got her on the first try.  The boarding house wouldn't work for their program (a lot like section 8) but it would be a good long term solution.  I also suggested that she call the woman because she seemed a bit confused about what she was looking for.   We talked for a bit.  I made contact with a place I knew of and got an application sent to her PO box.  I put in a call to my friend with the rooming house.  The rooming house would have worked but it was full.  I called her back with what little I found.  I also facebooked her need telling people to contact me.

I am not a social worker but  the need is great.  There are so many unfortuane people.  I don't know what is wrong with her.  I hope she finds a place soon.   I do my best but at least the housing person knows she still needs help and more guidence.  I was hoping the boarding house would work.

Gets the job done!

I am not really sure how she found me.   Hardly anyone ever fills out that form.   Its on my website.

I try to help where I can.  I do not know if I will be of any use to her.  One can only try.

Debbie, you are very kind, she is lucky she happened upon you.  Not many agents would have gone the extra mile to help her.
