What Is The ActiveRain Community Really All About?

Holy smokes where to begin!! ActiveRain is an amazing community of real estate ActiveRain Community Guidelinesprofessionals and affiliates that understand how to work well together to build community and business. My first jump into the rain was way back in December of 2006 (and that sure seems like a long time ago now). I signed up and then did nothing for 2 years. Nobody explained what ActiveRain was all about and blogging was pretty new at that time so I didn't get the significance of the whole deal. People would ask me if I was a 'member' of ActiveRain and I'd say yes but had no idea of what that meant. Call me clueless because I was!

And then in 2008.....I hired an internet marketing coach. She kicked my butt and said - girl - you are missing the boat by not blogging and for sure, for not blogging on ActiveRain. Enough said. I listened to her and jumped in and wrote my very first post. I know, I know it's pretty lame! But I leave it up so others that are just beginning can see where many of us start - on the very first rung of the rain spout. From there I started blogging my little head off and tried my best to learn as fast as I could. At that time we didn't have ARU (ActiveRain University) but there were so many folks that were more than willing to help me out -I was shocked, really I was. I began to see that ActiveRain was more than just blogging, it was about building awesome relationships with the best of the best in the real estate industry across the USA, Canada and Europe. What a awesome gift I gave myself -or rather that my coach gave me! I don't think she really even knew the real power and magnitude of ActiveRain but rather that it was 'the place' for me to be involved - consistently. I'm so glad I listened and followed her advice!

So if you're just learning about ActiveRain and wondering whether or not you too should get involved as a real estate professional you know I'm going to say YES! Jump into the rain, get involved and learn as much as you can as fast as you can. There are MANY of us that are here to help you out (AMBASSADORS) as well as the awesome ActiveRain Staff. It can and probably does seem overwhelming at first (I know I've been there not too long ago) but trust me, you'll get 'it' and help is only a call or email away - 24/7.|

Be sure to read the  Community Guidelines before you begin your blogging journey!

Below is the part of the Guidelines that spoke to me and still does (BIG TIME) to this day!

ActiveRain is built for Community

ActiveRain is built for Community

We built ActiveRain as a place for real estate professionals to network and create a sense of community. This is your community! It is our members that make ActiveRain such a special place.

  • Have fun with the site. Don't be afraid to dig in! There's a lot to do and learn here.
  • Let ActiveRain staff and other members know what you are thinking. Member feedback is essential to our continued growth and development
  • Get connected. At first ActiveRain may seem so big that you could never be heard, and so small and cliquish that you will never find your place. Everyone experiences this phenomenon! Our suggestion is to start off slow; read blogs, then start commenting on posts that interest you, and once you feel ready, blog away!

Anna, it is a wonderful place to advance our business, but then there's the education, the friendships, and the knowledge that no matter where we go in this country there will be a smile there to say hello

In reflection, other sites failed to capture the interest of its users while ACTIVERAIN did the opposite. As a entry level blogging portal or for the seasoned pro, the RAIN holds its own..

Anna - I also joined in December of 2006, then promptly did nothing on AR for about 7 or 8 months. Happy that I finally decided to be more active here eventually. It's not called PassiveRain, after all.  :)

Anna, AR really is all about community.  For the most part the people here are great. I do get my feathers all ruffled when I see a copy and pasted post. Some folks just don’t get it nor do they care. I need not to let that bother me so much!

Hello Anna. This is a great way to not just meet people, but to also learn from each others expertise.

Anna, I remember wanting to meet you when CDPE was in Arizona for the annual conference. In Oklahoma there are only a few left that still have a presence here and I don't see anyone coming on board lately. Maybe it is the expense versus when it was free, maybe some people think that blogging has become passe. Maybe they would prefer to pay Zillow $189 a month for 1/8 of a zip code for cold leads. Social media like this is still the lowest cost to success ratio in real estate marketing in my opinion.

Scott I'm glad you found your way into the rain! You bring a lot of great ideas to all of us!

Andrew - you got it!

Ginny pretty amazing isn't it?  Who would have imagined it to be so? Not I!

Ed and all I did was look for you at Starbucks with your wife - and that BIG SMILE of yours last year! I knew it was you for sure! Priceless.

Paul - getting involved and staying involed is the key. It's called building relationships!

Richie you are so right about that. Great place for newbies and oldies alike.

Jason and I for one of many are glad to see you back playing in the rain!

Kathleen - I don't pay attention to those folks. Send them on to staff and they'll handle it.  I look for the good and there is so much good on ActiveRain.

Patty - absolutely. It's amazing what we've all shared and learned as a community - and it keeps going and going (or should I say raining and raining!)

Joe WOW that was awhile back, wasn't it! 2009 or 10 maybe? I think the reason you may not see CDPE's that much anymore in some parts of the country is because we've got very few short sales on the books and that is welcome site.

Anna -- The community here is just awesome.  You're right in saying that you can get help, advice, direction from so many people who are so willing to help and share.  AR can seem overwhelming to newbies, but the help and guidance is plentiful.  ARU is the best and should be attended by newbies AND those who are seasoned.  There is always something to learn

Anna, like you, I also didn't understand how AR worked.  My very first blog post, no one responded with comments.  So I didn't post anything else for a long time.  I didn't understand the concept.  But now, I've made a lot of great friends here and enjoy the commradarie of real estate colleagues.  What a great place to learn about our industry!  :)

Anna, I once mentioned AR to a fellow agent. He said, "Yeah, I tried that but I never got any business from it." I looked him up and found out he put his name, phone number and photo in his profile. Not even a website. You get out of AR what you put into it and he put nothing into it.

Great post Anna!  I personally enjoy the variety of topics that other professions use to post about on AR.  From humor to serious issues concerning the law, there's always something for everyone!  In my opinion AR is here so that we can get our opinions out while showcasing ourselves, our knowledge, and letting our field know who we are.  It's like free marketing!

Anna Banana - so you were in the very first group or members.... Wow. I came in 2007 and what a terrific network it was. Not that it is not good, but it was much better then.

I would like to welcome myself as a rookie in AR. It seems to me, from the comments I've read, that the way to go is to simply jump in. So here I am. I work the northwest side of Chicago and Northern Suburbs. Ha,ha, ha...I just thought I throw that in there in case anyone had a refearral. Anyway, I am glad to be here and I hope I can make a positive contribution to the community.

Regina it takes diving in head first and going for it - consistenly.

Tammie 100% agreed.

Jack there are so many aspects to Activerain.....and I'm sure that list will grow even larger.

Cheryl - I've learned a ton of techie things here. More here than anywhere else.

Jon I signed up and did nothing for almost 2 years. So I wouldn't exactly call me in the first group by a long shot.

Kathleen why thank you! You made me month!!

Carlos yes you must jump in head first and keep jumping in over and over! You will be amazed by what you can create by being a contributing member of this community. Best thing I've done in years.
