Farmers Markets on the rise in and around Montgomery County

Farmers Markets have been on the rise since 2008.  In August 2013, the USDA reported that 8,144 markets were listed in the National Farmers Market Directory, a 3.6 % increase from last year.  We have absolutely seen this in our area!  The increase is welcomed by many residents.  Not only do these markets help local farmers, they help satisfy the constant growing demand of consumers wanting access to fresh and local produce.

We are fortunate in our area to have a wide variety of markets to choose from!  Just to name a few: Tomball, Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, and Magnolia all have weekly markets.

Closest to my area is, Sweet Magnolia Pickins Farmers & Artisans Market, which has been making a name for itself in Magnolia, Texas!  Estabished by local citizens in 2009, it has grown and become a staple in the middle of town.  In fact, demand and participation has just recently expanded the market's availability from twice a month to now every Sunday!  If you have a chance to stop by, you won't be disappointed! Prepare your taste buds for farm fresh veggies, fruit, goat cheese, honey, and much more.  In addition to food, the market includes local artists that provide one of a kind handmade products.  The local farmers and artisians set up at the corner of 1488 and 1774 every Sunday from 11-3 pm.

Don't miss out on the chance to support your local farmers and all that these wonderful markets have to offer!  They are definitely a marvelous addition to our communities. If you are curious about what Farmers Markets are around your area, visit the USDA site and use the zip code search tool.
