Chesapeake Bay Kids Oyster Gardens

The oyster population is a vital part of Southern Maryland's ecological system.  They help filter pollutants in the water, oyster reefs provide a healthy habitat for fish, crabs and other living organisms in the Chesapeake Bay and they have provided an honest living for millions of Southern Maryland fishermen throughout the area's history.  Kids can learn more about the value of the Bay's native oyster at the Chesapeake Bay Kids Oyster Gardens.

The native Southern Maryland oyster population has significantly dwindled over the years.  The Chesapeake Bay Kids Oyster Gardens show children and adults how the Chesapeake Bay Foundation oyster restoration project works.  At the Chesapeake Bay Kids Oyster Gardens, visitors will learn more about the oyster's impact on the local Southern Maryland ecology from local marine expert John Bacon with hands-on activities that include several bay-dwelling creatures.  All kids must be accompanied by an adult to attend.
