BEE a Team Player!  I love watching kiddie movies that have a learning lesson. I went to Blockbuster three days in a row and finally someone returned "The Bee Movie".  Now, imagine this half a century 'old' lady walking into Blockbuster for three days with no children, same counter lady and me asking, "Did anyone return the Bee Movie??????" and for two days a solemn face when the answer came back.....a no.

No, no and finally a yes. Like a child's sheer joy at getting a new toy, I'm sure I looked the same way at hearing the word, "Yes" and with lit up eyes and mannerisms of the utmost joy. I'm sure it was just as my children looked in their younger years and when I asked them if they'd like to go to the movie theater.  I presume that's why I still enjoy the kiddie movies...remembering those times passed by where only fond memories lay in my memory bank to dredge up for a grin only beknownst to .....me.

Okay...I'm back now...you see how those fond memories get us sidetracked?

The Bee Movie is surely a treasure to watch with your little ones...or with your husband :) With a lesson to learn in each (or maybe as George Souto said, leave it to me to find something related to Real Estate in a movie)

Long story short, the Bee Movie is about a bee named Barry Bee Benson (voice/star is Jerry Seinfeld who actually co-wrote the script with two others as well as produced the film).

  • Barry Bee Benson graduated from his 3 day college (life is too short I tell ya) and he only had ONE chance to pick his "lifelong" job. (I finally got to the point in my life where I found a career I love but it took MANY chances and years; as well as trial and errors to get to Real Estate.)
  • He goes outside the hive before making his decision and he breaks the almighty rule of "speaking to a human". (We all take a big chance....a big risk....to put all aside to try our hand in the Real Estate Industry. How would we know if we didn't try?)
  • He listens to 'the human' and finds out that humans have been stealing their honey and decides that his 'purpose in life' is to sue the humans. (I have found that if I hear one thing and I'm not totally sure about the 'whole picture....to get a second...even third opinon and that has given me more insight and knowledge to make a sound decision)
  • He wins the lawsuit.....but at a very high cost of negative consequences. They got back all the honey and had so much that they didn't need to work to make more and all the bees were out of a job and since bees usually pollinated the flowers....all plant life was dying. (Jumping into something without doing our due diligence can be at a high cost to our reputation and business. Get all the facts and data before 'assuming' and jumping in something you know nothing about.)
  • To right the wrong, the 'human' and Barry Bee Benson go to California to get the last of the flowers to spread around to re-pollinate the world. (When I make a mistake I immediately try to correct it and by all means get off my tush and bring it forefront. I do not let 'false pride get in the way of righting a wrong!)
  • The bees get their jobs back and give the honey back to the humans....for they realized they were truly not happy without their livelihood of pollinating and making honey. (Never step on the toes of our peers and others to 'get what we want' without looking at the whole scope of things. Once the damage is done....we may not be able to recoup what is lost. Reputation is the most important thing we have in our business. Lose that...and you lose everything.)

Moral of the Story:  With a common cause it brought everyone (the humans and bees) together to realize that working together would once again bring back not just the industry but save the plantlife in the world.

Teamwork is key to the success of the Real Estate Industry. With teamwork and working side by side with our peers and everyone involved in the industry and our transactions....... we will have a growing successful 'breed'.

* Following up will get you the movie....and the client :)

A good reminder that I gotta go rent that movie!  I missed it when in the theaters.

We wait for it to get to Blockbuster. Then we can put it on pause and go to the bathroom and stuff :)

OK its official I need to watch that movie!

03/20/2008 04:24 PM by Angela Meeler (Keller Williams Atlanta Partners)

I guess I'll add this to my movie list as well. With an analysis and moral to the story like that, I now have a good reason to rent it. Excellent post Sally!

Oh, good marti!  I really love these movies. When I was a kid (long time ago haha) I don't remember ever wondering what the lesson was in the movie. Now I look forward to it...maybe when my kids finally bless me with grandchildren I'll be able to teach them the value of a movie filled with lessons :)

03/20/2008 04:45 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Sally,  OK, so I've wanted to watch the movie, but now that I've read your post and know the plot...  I guess I'll still have to watch it at some time.  But a movie with a lesson is always a bonus.

03/20/2008 04:57 PM by Marc Grossman, GRI - Central Florida Real Estate Specialist (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

Hi Sally,

All that out of the Bee movie...thats great! Now I can sooo picture you waiting at blockbuster....;)

03/20/2008 05:07 PM by Suzanne Sands-Somerset, MA Real Estate (Century 21 Associates Realty)

Marc: It's really a cute movie....I do believe many will enjoy it and learning lessons are cool!

Suzanne: You could picture me there?  I really looked like a lost puppy the first two days....lol!

Sally,  Aren't bees amazing!!  How cool.  They have a remarkable ability to organize.  Wish I could do so well!!  ;-)

03/20/2008 05:20 PM by Karen Moorhead Ann Arbor Area Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty)

Karen: And in this movie they sure were organized to get everything back on track!  Interesting.

03/20/2008 05:39 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Woo-hoo: I've been really wanting to see that movie--glad I KNOW someone I can rely on for a thumbs up.

Good subject matter--teamwork!

03/20/2008 05:56 PM by Kathy "Kat" DeLong, REALTOR (WINDERMERE FINE PROPERTIES/LAKE ARROWHEAD)

Kat: Hey there! Hope life is treating you kind :)  Teamwork is what makes the industry go round.

03/20/2008 06:08 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Sally, OK OK let me see if I got this right.  The Bees worked their little stingers off to make honey, and the humans were the ones that got to eat it.  So if I was to recreate the same thing in Mortgages, some Loan Officers would write the Loans and I would collect the commission.  YEP that works for me, I like that team work :) :) :)

You are to much, can't wait to hear about the next movie :)

03/20/2008 06:11 PM by George Souto (McCue Mortgage Co.)

George:  You see...I knew you'd be by...that's why I mentioned you in the post lol!  You are too funny too...I like when people enjoy the movie mix....haha.

03/20/2008 06:18 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Sally I am glad that one of us has an imagination, because if I watched that movie I would have just seen Bees making honey ............ LOL

03/20/2008 06:25 PM by George Souto (McCue Mortgage Co.)

Great gift you have, Sally, of seeing real life applications to things like movies. I do that a lot too (like the time I was looking for a clarinet for my daughter and turned it into a real estate experience.  lol)

Haven't seen the Bee Movie yet but it's one of our things to do...or things to BEE doing soon...ha ha

03/20/2008 06:28 PM by Lake Wallenpaupack Pike County PA Real Estate | Karen E Rice (WEICHERT, REALTORS® Paupack Group )

Mmm.  I don't have to see the movie now because Sally just did a wonderful job of giving me the message.

03/20/2008 06:35 PM by Lenn Harley, Homefinders.com, MD & VA Real Estate

George: LOL... gotta have some kind of imagination....creative marketing :)

Karen: Hahaha.... I am still trying to picture a misplaced clarinet ...and RE lol!

Lenn:   Okay...but you're missing the in between!  Whenever I do these movie reviews vs. RE it's been out at theaters 6 mos ago...so I guess if you haven't seen it yet... well, good thing I told you about it lol!

03/20/2008 06:57 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

03/20/2008 07:05 PM by Fran 'The Title Man' Gaspari Title Insurance-PA & NJ (Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.)

Sally, it wasn't a lost clarinet; I was trying to buy one for her.  If you search AR for "Don't Ask Don't Sell" (use the quotes) you can find it.  (I didn't want to go ahead and link to it here on your blog).

03/20/2008 11:41 PM by Megan McGonigal - Cecil County, MD & Harford County, MD real estate (RE/MAX Integrity)

Sally - I love really good quality animated movies as well.  We don't have any kids at home, but I just enjoyed Ice Age: The Meltdown two nights ago and actually, I watched it twice.  I still like to watch the old Disney classics, like 101 Dalmations, Lady & the Tramp, although I can't watch Bambi because of the hunter scene (I've hated anyone who hunts ever since).  I haven't seen the Bee movie yet, but I am definitely going to after reading your post.  Thanks.

Woo Hoo an amazing movie critic on top of everything else. And extacting the analogy through the entire process is nothing short of amazing. Lady you make me pale to you. You are such an amazing creature. Sometimes I feel so inferior to all the talent in this world, I wonder when my God gifted talent will reveal itself.  Emoticon

^^That was American Gangster, a supposedly "true" story (disputed by many )but it was good!

My favorite animated movie is Toy Story 2.

Sally, I will have to check it out. Did you know bees' should not be able to fly, their body is too heavy for their wings. My cousin makes jewelry and that is her signature piece, it means "over-coming obstacles"

03/21/2008 02:21 PM by Missy Caulk Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams Ann Arbor)

Missy: That's what they said in the beginning of the movie. But hey.... they must be singing "I believe I can fly"....anything's possible isn't it?  I like that....overcoming obstacles. :)

That is a great story.  We do all work together in this world.  Let's make it happen

03/22/2008 05:32 AM by

Anonymous: That's the plan....it's sad with all the negative media and some of the members that decide this is a bashing place instead of remembering what we're here for.....  the networking with peers is the  most important....without that where would we be? Out there...where would we be?

03/22/2008 11:24 AM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

Sally-I am shocked and amazed.......did you say you won't even watch Bambi LOL ?   Now friend.....let's go back to the life analogies......yes, we all know the horror of Bambi's mother ( todays Market....credit problems, foreclosures, etc)  but if we shy away from something just because we know things are  bad then we never get to the good ( you are almost ready to close your 2nd transactions that I know of recently.....and I still haven't gotten one closed).  But if I stopped trying I will never get to the success (if you don't watch the Movie....you will never see the other 2 hours of thisFantastic Story  :)

OK, that is my Real Estate Reason why you should not shy away from Bambi.....and I'll be waiting for the review next week :) :)

03/22/2008 11:28 AM by Kathy McGraw ~ Calif Broker (CELLing Realty)

Kathy: You're going way too deep ...the other way lol!  I don't watch Bambi after the first time because it was way sad for me...and then later on I found out people actually eat Bambi's. Okay, I had a sheltered life hahaha!  Now....no one was murdered in the Bee movie....so completely you're way off :) I'm waiting for Pollyana review from you....  I won the prize. (we're debating whether to give Shadow some more pop rocks lol)

Hi Sally,

Theses days, it's crucial to have strong management to keep a good team. Strong leadership contributes to less anxiety among team builders. We have to always know where the company and the team are going, what the team is doing and how the team is getting there. If leadership factors are operating daily the team always wins.

03/22/2008 12:02 PM by David Saks - Real Estate Broker (The Real Estate Mart of Tennessee, Inc.)

David: Yes it is crucial to have strong management. My idea with this was teamwork i.e. agents on each side of the transaction, loan officer, escrow officer, home inspector, appraiser, pest inspector......we all have to work together as a team to make it work ...   All our agents in the office are independents (we have a little over 30 agents) as our office is quite small.  I can imagine the importance of a team within an office and how everything may get messed up with just one team member off on their own agenda. Thanks for your input!
