We are starting to make baby steps toward getting our lot ready to build on as soon as the city approves our building plans, and the construction loan is ready to close. And each step is exciting to watch since it makes it feel more and more real - yes, we are truly going to have a new house this year!
In the last several days, the contractors & crew have taken down a few trees that were right in the path of the proposed house, and cleared off LOTS of overgrown shrubs, ground cover, and blackberry mounds. Ahhhh, now we can actually see dirt!
The poles for the temporary power are up, complete with a sign with our address number. Actually seeing that sign made me dive for my camera to capture the first glimpse of "our address". The silt fencing is in place to keep the rain from taking all that newly uncovered dirt and washing it right off of the lot. The "danger, construction zone" signs are in place.
And the MOST exciting step happened yesterday - the contractors staked out the perimeters of where the house will be built! I got to go stand in the "living room", saunter on over to the "master bedroom and bath" (Never mind that there are still some tree stumps in the master bath - they will be out of here when the guys are back to break ground for the foundation).
Hanging out at the lot admiring the future house location also gave me a chance to chat with multiple neighbors. And just like when I am working with buyers, it is true that you learn the most interesting things from the neighbors! More info about the previous owner, the scuttlebutt about the neighborhood path at the end of the street that leads to the paved walking trail. That great feeling of realizing your soon to be neighbors are friendly and welcoming.
So just as I already suspected, the hardest part of this construction process will be waiting until the house is completed and we can move in!
