Oh Countrywide, Oh Countrywide, Where Art Thou, Oh Countrywide!

I sure hope some CEO somewhere at Countrywide cares enough about their image and what people think and experience with their company to set up Google alerts for their company and maybe, just maybe find this post; read it and make some changes.

What kind of changes might you ask? How about the customer service department for one?

We get paid very nice retainers for helping businesses become more customer friendly and efficient but guess what! Today is YOUR LUCKY DAY! I am going to give you a FREE consultation.

Get your phone numbers together! Why is it that every one of your numbers leads back to the same push this button and push that button and enter your social security number only to be switched to another extension to do the same thing all over again?
Why can't you have a menu of options that actually leads to different departments like one extension for short sales, one for foreclosures, one for current mortgage questions, one for where do I pay my bill? Why can't you actually have someone answer the phone instead of being put on hold for hours? Some people think you are doing this on purpose so that your borrowers will just give up trying to have you work things out with them. Others say not to give your that much credit.

Nestor was on the phone for over 45 minutes one time, 50 minutes another time and on and on it goes. I bet you have customers who just plain give up on trying to get you to help them because they have found a more inept phone system that what your company has. This is not hard to change. Hire someone who knows how to work phone extensions. Call me, if you don't know where to find someone, I will find someone for you. But this has just got to be fixed. It is broken!

Get your customer service reps who answer the phones trained! Why do you monitor the calls? It says for training purposes? Who are you training? A fourth grader can do a better job in your customer service department. What is so hard about teaching people how to answer the phone, how to treat human beings and how to answer their questions with the correct information. Every time Nestor calls you he gets a different answer from a different person. Even the phone numbers we are given are wrong! How do you give out the wrong phone number?

Get a computer technician who knows how to be on call and keep your computers running. Then maybe you won't have to tell us your computer is down for 2 days in a row!

Have a system to enter the authorization letters in so you know you have our sellers' authorization letters on hand and in your system so that you don't have to spend all that time on the phone with Nestor as he tells you that it is there and you have to find it. It is not that difficult to create systems and there are systems creators that could go into your company and revamp your entire company to be more productive and efficient.

Why are you wasting the stock holders money by hiring an appraiser and a broker to do a BPO on your short sales? What is the point of that? You are the only lender that we have found that does this so far and we work with many lenders. Save that money and use it to improve your systems.

If you want to just foreclose on all these short sales why don't you just come out front and say that you are not interested in helping your borrowers with working out a short sale. OH, why does a person who wants to do the right thing, struggles to pay their mortgage payments each month and they call to get an extension on a payment you tell them they have to be late first, they have to miss 3 months of payments before you will attempt to help them? What sense does that make? You punish your good payers and reward your delinquent accounts. This makes no sense at all. Especially when in just 6 months a payment goes from $2200 a month to $3850. per month!

Even if you do not want to take proactive measures to help your company redeem itself in the public opinion, your stockholders and your consumers than here is another solution:

Hire a short sale servicer company to take over your short sale work. Since you can't seem to do it, get someone who can. Follow Henry Ford's Advice!

I had two offers on a house that County Wide had the note on, same situation they would NOT work with us on a full price listing, it was awful. One of my favorite lenders worked there and she couldn't even help. She finally left too and started her own company. This was a couple of years ago before they got a bad rap but I quit working with them at time.

Missy- Thank you for contributing to this. I found websites where CWs customers write in all their terrible effects of their irresponsibility. I hope they try to at least develop a bit of some care and concern.

I hope Countrywide will get their acts together, and your post should definitely should go right on their website too.

They must use the same Customer Service consulting group that Wells Fargo uses!!!! I will have to blog about the nightmare loan we had with them a while back. It was insane!

Hello Katerina,
I have not worked with Country Wide but I have heard horror stories from others.  We can only hope and pray someone there will wake up and understand that if they would just talk to clients and agents, some of these deals could be saved.

I used to find Countrywide very quick and efficient.  It seems that things have changed a great deal.

Hi Katerina....we have two receptionists answering our phones from 8 in the morning until 8 every night 7 days a week, then a telephone answering takes over. Our office takes a million calls a year, people love to talk to live bodies, not do the voice mail dance and talk to computer activated voices or more messages...it's all about Customer Service.

Cheers, good luck with changing Country Wide they went of business here!

Who are these people and what have they done with Countrywide? They used to be my #1 lender! No more.

CW has never been know for their sensibilities... Sure they were the #1 lender but CW only wanted the deal upfront and never expected the down turn to occur.  They could sell a loan, but they were never property managers.

On the otherside, CS was one of the first banks who said that they would help their borrowers facing forclosures out.  Well, I sent them clients about to go into default and their response was that they couldn't help.  Mostly talk and no action.

BofA has placed a bid.  Personally, I believe the downside outweighs the upside.  And their stock is at 50% of the bid price, the FBI is investigating them, the loans they made are continuing to default, and they are paying their CEO Millions.  Sure, there are a lot of people that need help.  But, not just from CW.  If we implement a plan, It needs to be more all-inclusive.

Like Gayle, we used to have great success with CW... even on the few short sales that we did in early '07 but lately they have just become a nightmare.

Countrywide needs to take a lesson from Discover Card.  I called the other day from my cell phone because I had a problem with my account.  In less than ten minutes, I was finished and everything was hunky dory.  It was so good, I almost needed a cigarette afterward.

Just kidding...but you know what I mean.  Sounds like Contacting Countrywide is like trying to get in touch with people at Verizon.

I remember an old Lily Tomlin skit on Saturday Night Live - she was the phone operator and was addressing customer complaints...she said "We're the phone company.  We don't care because we don't have to."  I think that's how a lot of these companies feel.

BTW, I like the color in your blog.

Katerina - So true!  We just steer our buyers away from certain banks that just haven't shaped up.  Countrywide is one of them.  Just this week, we suggested to an agent that she cancel a short sale listing that she had four offers on.  Sadly, C/W wanted $40,000 more than the most recent sale for a model match.  We know that after they buy it at the Sheriff's sale that they'll probably list it for $20,000 to $30,000 less than what they were offered.  For that amount of loss, you could pay 5 people $4,000 to analyze their foolish decision.

All I ever get from Countrywide is trouble. They have my loan and just keep trying to loan me MORE MONEY. Two of our best lenders were with them.  I couldn't use them for MONTHS...they FINALLY moved to another bank - Thank God!  They are an unGodly mess right now.

Katerina ~ If they were an efficiently run company, they would not have been in this mess. Sorry for your trouble.
