OH NO POLY IN THE HOME. Desert Sun Home Inspections Carlsbad N.M.
Polybutylene lines in a home is a bad thing. These were recalled in 1995. These lines were used in homes from 1978 to 1995. The window to get the lines and fittings replaced has passed. Follow this link for more information about the poly line recall.

This home was built in 1995 and was never added to the recall list for replacement. If it was the home owner could have taken a cash settlement and wanted to wait till there were issues with the lines and fittings before getting a full replacement of the lines and fittings. Or the home owner was never notified by the plumbing company that there was ever a recall.
Well, now the time has come for the owner to step up and have the work completed.
Here is a good look at why the lines and fittings need to be replaced.
The corrosion has been on the fittings for some time.
The real issue is what we cannot see. If the corrosion is this bad out in the open what about what we cannot see.
Curiosity got the best of me so I removed the pipe wrap that was on the water heater's lines. Low and behold there was a large amount of corrosion on the fittings. Not long before the fittings failed fully. They were already leaking a small amount but leaking non the less.
Hard water is a common issue in this part pf the country. This will add to the overall performance of the piping and fittings.
Next step is to see how much it will cost to get all the piping changed out.
This is why you always get a "Home Inspection" by a certified inspector. For the peace of mind.
