CLARITY OF MISSION

CLARITY: How clear are you on your mission?

The only thing worse than having no mission is to have an undefined or too broad mission. At the end of last year I broadened my personal mission to include listing properties for sale in our area. Prior to that decision I had worked primarily as a Buyers agent and did very little in the way of listing homes for sale. I really enjoyed working with buyers and plan to continue to keep that a key focus.

It was surprising to me how much work I had to do to clarify my mission and business plan just by adding listing agent to my package of service. I took and sold 3 listings last year. My goal this year is a listing a month and I currently have two.

This change in business took me back to the drawing board. It is completely a different world to work as a listing agent. At first I found myself trying to use engagement practices I had learned as a buyers agent. It was not working. I needed to redefine my entire mission and include the complexities of working as a sellers agent. It took me about 3 months to get real clarity of mission as a sellers agent but it has paid off big time.

If you are expanding your business this year, take time to get clarity of vision and mission. In the long run it will pay off and you will work smarter.
