I've written about University Place, Washington before - their walkways, their real estate home statistics, etc. Today, I wanted to share a few random but interesting facts about University Place:

Population (2012):

University Place -  31,562 (to put that in perspective, Seattle, Washington has 634,535; Elizabethtown, Kentucky has 29,335, Sacramento, California has 475,516, Orlando, Florida has 249,562, and Kailua, Hawaii had 38,635 in 2010.

Average Daily Temperature

Per City-Data:

University Place - 52 degrees - July and August highs average 75 while December and January are generally the two coldest months at about 32 degrees. November - April are the months most likely to see snow. So far this year we've only had one snow day - about 1 inch - in the late fall. Snowfall can definitely vary from year to year!

Two Well-Known People Originally from University Place per Wikipedia

  • Gary Larson, Far Side comic strip creator
  • Pat Tillman, star linebacker for Arizona State University and the Arizona Cardinals, 2004 Afghanistan War casualty

Interesting tidbits, that are fun to know and to share about University Place Washington.

P.S. For fellow real estate agents and other blogger friends out there, I discovered some intriguing resources to help our readers and clients! The population info above came from the U.S. Census Bureau. Most of their information is freely available to copy verbatim. As their site states, "Copyright protection is not available for any work of the United States Government (Title 17 U.S.C., Section 105). Thus you are free to reproduce census materials as you see fit. We would ask, however, that you cite the Census Bureau as the source." Be aware, however, that their site, as with other goverment sites, does have some material that is NOT government produced and that IS copyrighted. You do have to carefully check each site/page to be sure you are using the material correctly.

Not only that, in the process of researching this article, I also discovered two other excellent resources to help us all - (and they're great for fellow news and weather junkies too, even if you don't write.) The Journalist's Toolbox - wait til you see all the categories in the left column, including weather! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has a ton of useful information including the Climate Data Online page to help us research and write about weather history in our cities and states and beyond. And yes, it's another government site with the same information that most government documents are NOT subject to copyright rules. Click here to read their disclaimer.

Great tidbits of information on University Place! I didn't know Pat Tillman is from there, but I certainly know the sacrifice he made.
