When your blog goes silent...
It's April 14, and the most recent post on your blog is a list of November activities at your community library. WHOOPS!
Why would a first time visitor to your blog want to read any further? For that matter, why would a formerly frequent visitor to your blog want to come back again?
Is there any reason for a prospective client to see this and think you're still in the business?
I think not.
Set yourself up for blogging success
Many of us have hit a roadblock at some point along the way. In many cases, it's a conscience decision to table blogging and focus on other priorities. Whatever the reason - or excuse - there's always a new day when we can begin again. We don't have to wait until January 1 next year to make this resolution... or to make a plan.
Making a plan is the best way to set yourself up for blogging success, according to your own unique definition of success.
The MOST Plan for blogging
Why do you blog? What do you blog? When do you blog? How will you measure the success of your blog? This plan answers those questions and provides a framework for you to follow in your blogging life:
1. MISSION. This is a broad statement of what you want to accomplish through blogging.
Example: Establish my team as the go-to resource for real estate expertise in my zip code.
2. OBJECTIVE. This should be specific, doable, and measurable.
Example: Generate six additional home buyers or sellers annually through blogging.
3. STRATEGIES. You can (and probably should) have multiple strategies.
Examples: Demonstrate my knowledge of local market conditions; Expand my network of real estate professionals to generate referrals; Market my listings.
4. TACTICS. Now you can get really really specific.
Example: Monday, market studies. Wednesday, local evets, places, or people. Friday, real estate FAQ's. Weekends, just for fun. Daily, call one new Activerain blogger to welcome them.
Silence is NOT golden in blogging!
Few Activerain bloggers generated a listing, sale, or referral from their first blog post or comment, but you won't benefit in any way from Activerain if you don't start participating. This is true for the returning blogger and virgin blogger alike.
Remember, your definition of successful blogging is unique to you. It may be the most Activerain points, more listings and sales, better SEO, or the none of the above. Even if your definition of success on Activerain is "to learn something new every day," creating a MOST plan will help ensure you do that.
When your blog goes silent, it's never too late to resurrect your MOST Plan and start anew.
