I have to say that when I go out to show properties, I often wonder who was there before me.  I wonder if they had the flu, if they have (well you know anything THAT I DON'T WANT TO HAVE!)

Every time I leave a property with a customer, I offer them a "squirt" of Purell.  It's like protecting them from an unknown environment.  It doesn't matter to me what "germ killer" you would choose to use, however, I always get a "yes" from my customers.  I also keep Lysol in my car, extra water, paper towels, etc.

With the flu as bad as it is right now, strep throat, and other viruses, you can never be too safe.

My customer's are happy with my offering of disinfectant, as you never know who touched what before you.

Do you carry this type of disinfectant's with you?

Do you think you should? If yes, why? If no, why not?

It's a great idea in my book, the customer now realizes you care about them.

What do you think?  I would love to know!

That's a wonderful way to show you care about your customers - and yourself. Not only could other people who viewed the home be carrying germs - the homeowners may also have colds or flu.

I see our local grocery store now has disinfectant wipes at the door - I just need to get in the habit of using them and not assuming that all is well. My husband is better at it than I am, so if he's along he reminds me.

Be sure you ask before you spray the Lysol - there are folks like me who are allergic to air freshener sprays of all kinds, so you could bring on a bad headache, or worse.

Hi Karen:  Yes, I am also a Purell freak.  I keep the little individually wrapped sheets in my car.  Not only are they good for germs, they are also nice to have in the summer.  We all get hot when showing property and using the wipes on the inside of your arms and the back of your neck make you feel cool.  Of course, door knobs, counter tops, etc., always have germs so you can't really go wrong.  If your customer doesn't care for one that's OK too.  Better safe than sorry and most people appreciate it.

Marte,

Thank you. Our local grocery stores have wipes at the entrance, I wipe down the car handle...call me crazy, but, who know's who had the cart b4 me.  As for the Lysol... I clean out my car with it after I get home.  I don't use it in homes.

Sondra,

Almost all my customers choose to use the Purell...these day's you have to be carefull...After all in south Florida, the last time I took the annual class for my Nuclear Medicine license(last career)...56% of the population had some sort of an STD (don't want to go into detail here) and 35% of those didn't know...So, I'm carefull!

Laurie,

The flu is really bad down here in South Florida. I'm glad I got my flu shot!   There are some people that have been down for over a week with some kind of a stomach bug, other's who have strep throat...can't hurt and the customers know you care about them! I have a large bottle in my car!  (of Purell!)

Karen,

You bet I do, I am susceptible to just about anything and this is my means of protection "PURELL".  I offer a squirt to anyone willing to take it.

No. I've read about the negative side to using too many antibacterials and I avoid them. We use good old plain soap and hot water instead. I wash my hands more than anyone I know. I don't believe in spraying things in the air either. You may kill germs, but you are breathing that stuff. You may as well be smoking cigs in my opinion and in the opinion of some researchers if you are inhaling sprays. Chemicals are not good for you wether you are eating them, breathing them, inhaling them or rubbing them all over your body. Too many chemicals around us is believed by MANY to be the cause of so many cancers. So, for me, it's like Cancer or Flu? I'd choose the flu.

I'm not bashing you for using it I am just telling you why I choose not to.

Cheri,

I worked in hospitals all of my life until I started selling real estate a few years ago. I was glad for hand sanitizers.  Now I don't use them all day long, however when I walk out of a disgustingly dirty home or if I'm showing someone who is visible ill and we're both touching the same door knobs...I use it.

A lot of doctors say we are tooooo clean of a society.  That exposure to germs raises your tolerance.  Ilke that approach...my wife likes the purell way!

Larry,

Depends what type of germ's you are talking about...exposure as a child does increase one's tolerance over the long term to enable the body to fight off infections like cold's, minor flu, however, the nasty stuff going on around South Florida, respiratory infections lasting weeks, insome cases longer, and the stomache flu that has had many people I know down for over a week, I don't want.  I have been delivering gatorade to these people now for a week...dehydration, some hardly have the energy to walk 20 feet...it's bad down here and I say, "Purell"!  :-)

Karen; I keep Purell in my car as well. Never leave home without it. We shake so many hands in any given day, and can't run to wash our hands. Thank God for modern technology.

Here's a great option, StepNpull.  It's a simple bracket that attaches to the bottom corner of any commercial latch less door and allows the user to open the door with their foot instead of their hand.  There is a short demo video on the website.  www.stepnpull.com

oh my goodness people!

sheep, we are sheep!

please, do some simple google searches and educate yourself one step further....these slogans are scary "did you purell?".....this is a perfect example of how a little knowledge is a dangerous thing...you stopped short of learning about the bigger more important picture...:(

Kimberly, I do not understand your response to the post. I did google Purell and found the typical "flammable and don't drink" warnings but nothing listed that would stop me from using it. As a Home Inspector I have to touch things that I really do not want to and so I use the product to help protect me from the "GRUNDGE". I'd like a clarification if you would be so kind as to provide an excample. I do not want to be hurting myself unintentionally. Thanks

Blessings
