I was listening to the news last night when I heard this. Did you know that light bulbs can be bad for your health. Energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs-8000 hour long life bulbs that slashes your light bills contain mercury-potentially potent toxic. Government experts are urging people not to throw them away. So what are you supposed to do when it light bulbs burn out? You should properly recycle them in your home. But only a handful of counties in the country recycles them. Also,ACE and other hardware stores are encouraging franchise owners to create in store recycling centers for these light bulbs.

Fluorescent tubes have always been a disposal problem.  The new LED lights are probably much safer and less hazardous to dispose of.

Lanre, thanks for the tip!  I thought you just weren't supposed to eat them.  Another thing about the new bulbs - they are totally unflattering!  But that's not as important as saving energy!

Lanre: I just read about recycling light bulbs earlier. i don't remember knowing this before. But now I do, I will recycle properly. But there should be easily located public bins so people will know.
