How are we doing with our fitness related resolutions?

By

Many of us made New Year’s resolutions to either lose weight or get in better shape.    Well, here is January 27th- how are we doing? Me?  Well, I've actually gained weight.    The trip to Texas last week May have contributed to this weight gain.   (That chicken friend steak in Decatour was worth every yummy bite.  Then there was Mexican food in Bryan and the almond crusted trout that ended up being fried  in College Station.  I didn't mean to gain weight.  It just happened.  No regrets over the chicken fried steak.)  I won't bore you with pictures since I haven't had time to download them yet.

So...in attemps to get remotivated, I made a list of the upcoming 5K races in Colorado Springs that plan to run in the very near future.

They are: 5K Race in Colorado Springs

February 2, 2014 (Super Bowl Sunday)   Super Half Marathon and Game Day 5K – downtown Colorado Springs.  5K starts at 10:15.  Starting line is at Tejon Street and Colorado Avenue.   I gained a pound last week on my trip to Texas.  This week I plan to lose that pound, with the help of this race AND partake in Super Bowl party treats.   http://www.pprrun.org/events/SuperHalf/

March 15, 2014 St. Patrick’s Day 5K.  Downtown Colorado Springs.  10 am.  This race is always a lot of fun.    http://www.csstpats.com/   My goal this year – leave my camera at home and see what time I can run a 5K in.   This race will serve as my “time to beat” for the upcoming spring 5K season.

April 6, 2014EXTERRA Trail Run at Cheyenne Mountain Park.  The 5K starts at 8 am.   I’ve never ran in this 5K before.  Yet, I like to mix road races with trail races to stay in optimal shape.

May 3, 2014Take 5 in the Garden, Garden of the Gods.  8 am.   In previous years, I have missed this race for one reason or another.  This is THE 5K that I want to run this year.

May 17, 2014 - Run to the Shrine –Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  The 5K starts at 8:30.  Of the 5K’s I’ve run in the past, this race is has been my favorite.   It is extremely challenging due to the steep hill on the way up to the shrine.  Yet the course is pretty and our entry fees help support the zoo.   http://www.cmzoo.org/guestInformation/events/runToTheShrine.asp

For a full listing of upcoming 5K’s and other races, check out the Pikes Peak Road Runner’s event listing at  http://pprrun.org/calendar/2014   (As you will see, there are many more races in the Colorado Springs area.)

I haven't lossed any weight despite heathier eating and back to the gym big time. I have reduced my insulin needs by 20 units a day! I blogged recently that our next weight gain will be noticed Monday Feb 3rd. The day after Super Bowl.

No 5k in my future but I've been to the gym on a regular basis.  No big scale change yet but with consistency and some tweaking it will happen!

Sondra: That's a lot of 5K races to get ready for. You'll do it! Go get 'em, girl. As to the occasional food splurge? No guilt, please, sounded like you needed some comfort food.

Sondra, a little weight gain when we are doing something else in our life taking time out away from fitness is ok, as long as we get back on track soon. I do like how you have spaced out your 5K's and I would agree with you that Zoo one looks like tremendous fun. Do remember it is not all about weight in pounds but about fitness, cardiovascular, percentage fat, strength, flexibility. Good luck with your goals.

Great list. Sounds like fun, and I hope you have some of that, as well as some fitness gains. I haven't lost weight this year, but that's not been the priority. Just overall fitness and 100% energy. The former is good, the later is more often the case after my recovery from illness.

Sondra,  I havent lost an ounce.  I've been vegging on the couch and not going outside at all at night.  Winter isnt the best time for weight loss for me.  Sounds like you will be ambitously running across the state.  Good job.

Sondra - Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend that necessitated your Texas trip... but it does sound like it had plenty of gastronomical delights along the way.  With that said, I am in the same camp as you so far this year, so my wife and I are looking for some local runs to get us in shape for the Army 10 Miler this fall.  Best of luck with your goal this year.

A 5K would be my max right now . Took a fall on the ice in Dec. which is finally coming around . It's just been too cold to do much outside !

I've never been a runner and doubt I ever will be.  I decided I would do the 30 day planking challenge this month (saw it on facebook) and I'm proud to say I have made it to 180 seconds!  Three minutes planking is not something I would have ever believed I could do.  The first day was only 20 seconds and I literally thought it was going to kill me!  Not sure how far I will get, but I am not lacking in determination!

Sondra,

This year I've committed to getting in great shape again! I am doing pretty good thus far monitoring my goals and working out. Just joined a wonderful gym and have frequent it regularly. My goal is to compete in two Triathlons this year, as I did one last year.

Some of us are not doing too well with our fitness resolutions. Now is the time for some corrections in our level of activity!

Have a wonderful weekend.
